Is it legal for someone purchasing a house to avoid paying a solicitor for conveyancing and searches etc?
Although it was quite a while ago, the couple who bought our last house did it.They had quite a bit of hassle when contacting other interested parties (estate agents, building society etc.). Everyone likes to have a cut of the cake (which you pay for). I think they said the council were not too bad (for some of the searches) You have to be strong willed, as no one wants to deal with a diy house buyer.I don’t think the law has changed since then. I assume you’re UK based? I seem to remember you can buy a pack on how to do it.
…OK, it’s 5 mins later and a search seems to imply you can still do it.
