If I go to a gun store and try to buy ten magazines for, say, a 9-mm Glock, will this alarm anyone?
They probably won’t have that many in stock. It would not raise any questions at all right now.
“Try to buy”? That might be alarming, but if you actually do buy them then no one will notice or care. Unless you’re in one of the following:
* California (all)
* Hawaii (all)
* Massachusetts (all)
* New York (all)
* Chicago, IL (all)
* Aurora, IL (R & P: CF & RF)
* New Jersey (all)
* South Bend, IN
* Maryland (all)
You might have better luck finding them online tho, people are stockpiling.
Our stores would have that many - they might have even more than that if it’s a popular model.
As to whether it would alarm anyone, IME no, no one would likely care in the slightest. Gun owners often make bulk purchases of ammunition, reloading equipment, and other things. Magazines aren’t that uncommon to buy in bulk - I’ve been to gun shows where folks have picked up a score or more of one type of magazine all at once. I’ve also seen people buy 20,000 rounds of 9mm at once too, and helped the idiot load it into his truck.
Another vote for no, unless one acts like an idiot.
Certain things will be tagged by firearms merchants - at least in stores that have hired people to do more than tag and bag them. Buying big amounts of ammunition and magazines isn’t really one of them. Hell, most of the shops here even tip their e-mail lists off when the HA (the national guard’s logistics dep) here in Oslo are dumping ammunition. With a prior service record, your papers in order and a friendly face you can even go straight to the source and get decommed army ammo.
(Got a great deal for 400 8mm Mauser rounds in great condition, just two weeks ago)
