Buying new car - seeking recommendations

Glengarry Glen Ross? I don’t know if you were trying to reveal it yourself in that last post, but it’s from Glengarry Glen Ross. “You drove a Hyundai to get here tonight, I drove an $80,000 BMW. That’s my name.”

(I think compared to a BMW, a Hyundai is still a joke. But if you’re on a budget…well, you could get a used BMW in good condition? Or a Hyundai if you must have a new car.)

I did give it away inadvertently - you nailed the quote that I had poorly paraphrased.

The guys at the Toyota dealership were the 25-year old punks that inspired my last remark - as I’m sitting there waiting for the paperwork, less than five feet from them, they were actually quoting the movie to each other and high-fiving. Meanwhile, I’m stewing in resentment that these schmucks were so clueless about the whole point of that movie. I love that movie, but having come from the sales world - where half the folks you’ll work with put Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross right up there with Gordon Gecko from Wall Street on their list of role models - I can also deeply loathe that movie in the right circumstances.

As promised, now that you’ve guessed, you can take my new ride for a spin - if you can catch me!!

My eyes!!

Congrats on your Altima, Crown Prince! Back when I was a Sentra driver (1989!) I had planned to move up to an Altima some day … but moved to the Camry instead. I used to be pretty loyal to Nissans. I’m stuck in a Ford Windstar van at the moment, however, and will likely be car-shopping in the fall. Our whole outlook on cars has changed dramatically in the last few months due to gas, however; I was sort of thinking I could see myself in some giant Tahoesque SUV sort of thing (we have a boat). Fuhgeddaboudit!
