Byung Hyun Kim

Somewhere, Bill Buckner is smiling.

The guy is pitching like Duk Koo Kim.

Are you sure you don’t mean Long Duk Dong?

Anyway, forget Bill Buckner. Let’s all pause and remember Calvin Schiraldi.

You gotta feel bad for the guy. Two straight nights he’s one out away from being Byung-Hyun Kim, World Series Hero™. And two straight nights he instead becomes Byung-Hyun Kim, World Series Goat.

sigh I’ve resigned myself to another Yankees Series win*

[sub]* Even though the game isn’t over at the time of this posting, the Baseball Gods have made it quite clear that the Yankees will win this year[/sub]

I’m a SF fan, but even I hate to see someone from the
“enemy” pitch so badly. Yankees just now pulled it off again in extra innings, guess we have to believe in the mystique and aura afterall.

Nah, we just have to believe that Bob Brenly is a revoltingly stupid man(ager). And, there’s plently of factual information to support that, too.

Yeah, if Brenly was trying to shore up Kim’s confidence by having him relieve again under similar circumstances, he really had it backfire on him. After Brosius’s home run, Kim looked like he needed to be placed under a 48-hour suicide watch.

I felt sorry for the poor guy. He’s only, what, 22? And unless he pitches a perfect game or something, this is going to define his career and the rest of his life.

Baseball is a cruel mistress at times.

Let’s all say it together…

Never pull your pitcher when he is doing well.
(and, no, kids, that ain’t a euphemism.)
Brenly made that mistake Wednesday night when he pulled Shilling with 88 pitches, the last of which was a 94 mph strike.

He made that mistake again when he pulled Swindell after is one out in the 8th. No excuse.

While there’s something to be said about trying to boost Kim’s confidence, etc., his self esteem is NOT AN ISSUE IN A WORLD SERIES GAME!!!

(should have been D-backs in 5, as I predicted.)

I feel sorry for Kim, too. Brenly shouldn’t have put him in, especially the second time. Poor guy!

Oh, man!

Earlier today I was in class, teaching (In S. Korea for those of you who don’t know where I am…), we took a break…

I went to my office, where a couple of guys were watching the game.

JUST in time to see Kim give up the 2 run HR… MAN! For the second time in a row!!!

I went back to class, and my (Korean) students were devastated to hear about it…

Oh, Man!

I feel for Mr. Kim!

Flymaster, he’s pitching like Duk Koo Kim. In DKK’s last fight, it was listed that his opponent, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, won by “KO”.

Yeah, KO alright. Killed Opponent.

I’m freakin’ orgasmic after these last two wins, but I have to admit, I feel pretty bad for Byung-Hyun Branca. One of the WABC radio reporters said that they passed the D’back lockerroom and saw Kim slumped on the floor, motionless and inconsolable. It looked pretty bad.

If the Yankees go on to take the Series, I sincerely hope that Kim doesn’t go Donny Moore on us.

If the Diamondbacks are really wanting to save money, I suggest that they hire me as closer for the remainder of the expenses at half Kim’s salary. Hell, I can do that good. Nothing against Kim himself, but I’ve figured out the problem. Mike Morgan, Mark Grace and Miguel Bautista all used to be Chicago Cubs. The Yankees don’t have anyone on their team that played for the Northsiders. The Billy Goat Curse continues.

Daaaaaaaaaamn! Dire Wolf wins the “Obscure Boxing Reference” award for the day!

No shit.

For his sake, I hope he doesn’t get put in again unless there’s two outs, two strikes, no balls, nobody on base, and the D-backs are leading by five in the top of the ninth.

OR…in the seventh game, D-backs up by three, bases loaded, no outs, 18th inning, all other pitchers have been used, top of the order coming up, and he strikes out the side.

That’d be cool.

Here in St. Louis we had a little incident last year where brilliant-rookie-pitcher-falls-apart-in-postseason. The trauma continued into this season, down to the minor leagues and finally into the rookie league. After seeing the look on Kim’s face last night, I think he may never be able to pitch an inning in the majors again.

**
Add me to that bandwagon if Kim comes out in the 8th or 9th inning to protect any D’backs lead for the remainder of this series.

Arizona would do well to try to have greater than a 2-run lead going into the ninth in the future.

What makes me so f’ng frustrated about what the Yankees are doing is, they seem to have almost a smug inevitability about it. And they are being proven right to have it.

This is being done in the Pit., but you can’t blame Kim for getting ripped in Game 5. His arm was a noodle; he had nothing left, and it’s a miracle he got two guys out. After throwing 62 pitches the night before you had to expect he’d get hammered. He blew Game 4, but hey, it happens. He’s a good pitcher, but Tino Martinez got him. Baseball is like that.

Brenly’s decision to bring him in to Game 5 was… well, bizarre. It defies explanation. He could not possibly have been expected to pitch effectively. Relief pitchers don’t throw 62 pitches a game, and if they do they sure as hell aren’t supposed to pitch the next day.

I’m I Yankee fan, and I loved to see them win those last two games.

But I’m not happy that both of them came at the expense of the same unfortunate pitcher. Seeing poor Kim’s face last night after the second one - that just took some of the fun out of it.

I could see putting a seasoned reliever like Mario Rivera in again after blowing a game like that. Mo has ice in his veins. But certainly not a 22-year old rookie. Even if Kim hadn’t thrown so many pitches, Brenly should never have put him back in.

Brenly must have been thinking ahead to Game 7. Now, thanks to his managerial blunder, Arizona may not even experience a Game 7.

Brenly is more to blame than Kim. I honestly feel sorry for the poor kid.

It’s more like Byung Hyun Slider.
