Apart from his “Silent Planet” trilogy, I know there’s an unfinished story about a time-viewer, and a short story about an ill-fated expedition to the moon. Are there any others? In particular, I’m curious if he expanded any on the tossaway hints he gave in the Silent Planet trilogy about who or what was on the moon.
“The Dark Tower” is the fragment of a novel that opens with a viewer.
I’ve never heard of a moon short story of his. AFAIK, he never expanded on the moon hints in the space trilogy.
There is one other story set on Mars, but it has nothing to do with the space trilogy. It’s called “Ministering Angels” and is a humorous story.
I thought this thread was going to be about the space trilogy. “Parelandra” is my favorite C.S. Lewis book.
The trilogy doesn’t have any generally accepted name. The books are Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength. (Perelandra was once published as Voyage to Venus. That Hideous Strength was once published as The Tortured Planet.) I have heard people call it “The Ransom Trilogy,” “The Deep Space Trilogy,” “The Space Trilogy,” “The Science Fiction Trilogy,” and several other things, including “The Silent Planet Trilogy” and “The Perelandra Trilogy.” The Dark Tower is a supposed sequel to Out of the Silent Planet that Lewis wrote just after finishing that book. Supposedly he abandoned The Dark Tower and later decided instead to continue the story with Perelandra instead. Supposedly this manuscript was found after Lewis’s death and finally published in 1977. Many people think that it’s a fake. It would take a while to explain why and I don’t feel like going into it now.
The short story “Forms of Things Unknown” is about an astronaut encountering a Gorgon on the moon. It is also something published after Lewis’s death. It is also considered to be a fake by many people.
