C-Section on a squirrel!!!?

Well, someone’s pregnant pet squirrel* came in to the school’s clinic today. It had trouble giving birth so a c-section was performed.
Dogs and cats I can understand but a squirrel? Wouldn’t using a scapel be like performing c-section on a human with a sword? :eek:
And apperently Trinidad has native squirrels which is also suprising.

*The squirrel survived but not the fetus.

Dead squirrel fetus’ make Morbo sad ;_;

Yeah. Sad. :frowning:

Did they have to send away for tiny squirrel surgical instruments?

Ask Mouse_Maven; she does heart surgery on mice. :slight_smile:

We used to raise pet mice. We found a veterinarian who had quite a bit of experience with rodents. When three of our male mice matured and became quarrelsome and started biting each others’ naughty bits, we decided to have the little guys neutered. The vet only charged us $25 per mouse.

Never mind. :o

Hee. “I expect you’ll want to visit with the squirrel. You have 30 minutes.”

I think the size of the hand using the scalpel is more of a factor than the size of the patient, isn’t it? If a giant used a regular-sized sword to perform surgery on a regular person, it wouldn’t be awesome, but it probably would work okay for simple procedures. Am I wrong? The last time I used a scalpel was high school biology!

Isn’t it illegal to have a squirrel for a pet? Doesn’t the DNR take them away when found in the possession of individuals? I know they do with Racoons, because someone I knew had one taken away.
