I finally got off my butt yesterday to get back to running. It had been over a week and I had planned on running Monday, but my bed was far more inviting. The goal was to do week four this week. I didn’t make it through the second five minute run yesterday though. I did 90 seconds of running, 60 seconds walking, 90 seconds running, and several minutes of cool down walking instead of 5 minutes running and then a cool down. I’m happy that I got back to running, but I’m still a little disappointed at not being able to get through the day’s plan. Tomorrow is another chance though!
I had my first running dream! Even in a dream I was worried that I wasn’t wearing the right shoes.
Beautiful morning here: 34 and sunny, with melty round the edges snow (and black ice-yikes!). I did my new base run, which is 1.9 miles. I almost caved and just did 1.4, and then at one point (intersection), I thought, why not just go the long way home, but my Nano was almost out of battery, so I didn’t (not sure how long the long way home is–probably about 2.7). I’m a great first 10 minuter. I do a great first 10 minutes, then things fall apart. I did 10:1.5, 5:1, then 6 and was home. Vomity feeling was better today–I think I have been drinking too much juice just prior to my run and swallowing air along with it. Dunno.
Right now I am pissed about my Nano and iTunes. I bought (about 2 years ago) a Journey’s Greatest Hits CD. Ok, laugh away, but they remind me of HS and I find I need more driving/rock music to run to. I cannot download (upload? ) this onto my iTunes in my Macbook. I BOUGHT it you stupid people I should be able to listen to it in any medium I choose, right? Any ideas why I can’t?
#1 son will be asked about this after school. Stoopit technology. I have much older CDs that I have uploaded with no problem. It plays in the CD player with no problem. Grrrrr.
Have you authorized the MacBook? That whole iTunes thing baffles and irritates me as well. I only use my iPod for treadmill runs but I need it for those. The other night, I tried to sync the thing and all my songs, and it erased all but the most recent 8 songs from my iPod. My husband was able to restore it but…yikes.
I spent yesterday’s run feeling like there was a burp that just would not burp, and I was afraid to try to encourage it because what if it was actually the burp’s unwanted frat brother, the vomit? I mean, that would be horribly embarrassing and I’d still have to get home.
I too am a fantastic first 10 minuter. However, a couple months ago I’d have laughed in your face if you told me I’d be able to run for ten minutes straight, so there’s that.
Missie: start out slower on your first run. Then in the next run just try to run through it (assuming your heart rate and breathing are okay). Even if it’s just ~barely~ more than a walk, sort of a shuffle/run, see if you can keep the run going. I’m assuming from what you’ve written that it’s your cardiovascular more than your legs that are stopping you.
You can do it. We can help.
that’s someone’s commercial tagline, maybe Home Depot, right?
Hmm… my first run is today, in more than a week… Yikes!
On the upside, all this rest and good food (I’ve been better fed the past few days than the previous 2 weeks) made yesterday’s three exercise classes easy (one BodyPump, 2 step classes).
On the downside, I can just start feeling my calves starting to hurt. Tomorrow won’t be nice to me.
Push ups today gasp are wheeze a total acckkk! bitch!
whimper!
Did 25-29-25-25-36 with close to two minutes in between, even more on the last two sets. These guys are sadists (which I guess makes me a masochist). I could barely do the last set.
There’s snow on the ground! No more running for me! Yay!
Or at least that’s what I thought until I saw someone plugging along in the street this morning. Dagnabit! Okay, so I’ve run when it was really really cold out, now I have to see what I can do in the snow. I know I’ll have to run in the streets because sidewalks in my area are a nightmare for just walking. I am curious as to what the woods are going to look like with snow (they were gorgeous when the leaves were changing color).
You guys doing the push-ups deserve mad props. That’s some hard-ass sh*t right there.
I don’t know from whatever you’re saying. (I am remarkably computer illiterate). All I know is that if I want tunes on me Nano, I put a CD into me drive and upload it onto me MacBook and then transfer it over to me Nano via syncing (which is interesting all by itself-sometimes my playlists come over and sometimes they don’t).
I can’t even get the stupid CD to play on the MacBook (ie, get it into my iTunes app). This particular issue has never happened before. I paid $16 for the CD and I’m damned if I’m buying the same songs again from iTunes. And get off my lawn!
Ichni Unless you live in a city, always run in the street. Sidewalks are made of concrete and that is hell on your knees. Asphalt (and the way roads are constructed) have some “give”–or so I’m told. I have noticed my knees and feet hurt after running on the sidewalk. And run when it’s snowing–it’s such fun!
Another gorgeous run on the boardwalk this morning. It’s about 65 and sunny, and the surfers were out again. Did 2.5 in 25 minutes, only walked a little.
Going home late tonight, it’s about 20 degrees with snow coming back in MN. Don’t make me go back, please!
I live in the city. If I can run in the late morning when traffic has slacked off, then I’ll run in the street until I hit the trail. But if it’s earlier morning or evening, it’s gotta be the sidewalk.
Made it through week 7 day 2 today. Couldn’t make it through day 1 on Monday, but that’s OK. It’s all 25 minute runs this week. For the 1st time ever, I got the feeling that 3 miles might actually be doable. Up to now, it’s looked like the unobtainable dream.
Did Week 5 Day 2 this afternoon. Nice weather for it. At first I thought my calves were going to sabotage me, but they were just messing with my head. Had to run alone because my daughter’s seventh grade class went to Epcot for the day. Figured she’d be in mood to run by the time she got home. It will be interesting to see how both of us do on the 20 minute run on Friday.
I did something a bit different for todays run: I ran to work! Fortuitously, work is about 5k away and it took pretty well exactly 30 minutes. One nice thing it that it’s mostly downhill, but that also means that it will be a while before I attempt the harder task of running home.
Does this mean that you’ll be staying at work for 48 hours until the run home?
Since being out of town put a crimp in my schedule, I decided to restart week 6 (again). Yesterday was day 1, and it went fine. I am just going to force myself to do it this time, and next week will be week 7. No more excuses!
I think I might give in and get one of the Enell bras you ladies upthread were talking about! My little target sports bra just isn’t cutting it anymore.
I slowed down and I did w4d2 without too much hatred coursing through my body! I can’t believe I did it. At first, I felt like I was going too slow. I had trouble adjusting to running at 4.3mph. I had been going 5mph in previous runs, so I started today at 4.5mph with the thought about being able to talk while I run (does yelling obscenities and hoping there aren’t any nuns around to hear count as talking?), but 4.5mph was still a bit too fast if I wanted to carry on an actual conversation, so I slowed it down some more.
I think I might actually be able to become a runner. How cool would that be?
Best of luck to everyone doing C25K, it’s a great program. I completed C25K last year but I moved somewhere cold and then stopped running last winter. I’m very disappointed with myself that I didn’t stick with it. I was never ever fast (glaciers have been clocked at higher speeds) but I actually ran 3 miles without stopping more than once (took me about 40 minutes). I bought an exercise bike but hopefully next spring, I’ll take up running again.
MissMossie: I am so damned proud of you right now you would not even believe it. Keep up the great work!
Remember for your next run, embrace your inner turtle.
