I have my 5K on Saturday. I haven’t ran since before Thanksgiving. whimper I’m gonna get on the dreadmill tonight and just see how long/far I can go.
Did my Week 6 Day 1 tonight. Solo again since The Girl was at a Christmas function with her mom. Pushed pretty hard on the five minute runs, but just tried to get through the eight.
Hockey Monkey, try to run at least twice this week, tapering off before the race. You can do it.
Go Hockey Monkey! You really CAN do it, and the race will inspire you!
Friday wasn’t a fluke. Did 5K on the treadmill again tonight, looks like I may just work that into my regular routine. The first mile I felt like I was play-jogging. The last mile wasn’t as fun. My real 5K is Saturday. It’s supposed to rain. Yikes.
It’s not that bad, dress for the temp and you will do fine. If it’s windy, add a light windbreaker. Wicking fabrics are a must and have a full set of dry clothes to change into. I once ran a half marathon in such a heavy rain that the water wouldn’t run off even on the hills. I wore shorts and a CoolMax shirt and had no trouble with being cold(mid 50’s). Good luck.
Week 5 day 1 pushups again. This time I did it, but the last set was a real struggle.
Day 2 is looking a bit fearsome - there are fewer pushups per set but there are more sets and less time between sets. Ouch!
On a more postive note the running is still going fine. I’ve done some 6k (approx) runs without feeling any worse than after a 5k run. Although after the last one, my left knee hurt a bit when I bent my leg most of the way (it was okay walking, but not when bent more than about 100[sup]o[/sup]).
“Doc, it hurts when I do this!”
“Don’t do that!”
You’re doing great on the running AND the pushupping. I’m impressed.
No running yesterday, I was beat up after nonstop practicing of over one hour for my recital today. No running tonight, as I have the recital.
From tomorrow onwards, running until they close the gym for Christmas break, as they’re not having anymore aerobics classes until the next semester.
I wonder if I can run around my bro’s closed neighborhood in Miami…
It’s Miami, their a fairly fit bunch. I’m sure it’s fine if you run around there. Or go down to South Beach and go running topless in a thong. No one will blink.*
*Although they may stare.
Ow.
I completed week four on Sunday and started week five last night. Sticking with my slower running pace (following Shib’s advice to embrace my inner turtle), the runs seem much more doable. I’m still getting a good workout, but I no longer want to collapse into a sweaty pile of death afterwards. The new pace definitely makes the plan feel more feasible and almost more fun. I’m excited to see where it takes me.
Thank you all who are sticking with it. Reading about your successes gives me hope. Reading about the days you go out and run, but don’t quite reach your goal consoles me during those times that I don’t quite do as well as I hope to. I don’t think that I’d be able to do as well with my running endeavor without the Dope.
Rats… lots of rain today and tomorrow… no running yesterday because of my dance recital. Now that that’s over, and also aerobics and other classes, I’ll concentrate with running over the break. Except when it rains, since I hate walking in the rain and getting my pants wet.
Well then, moi and I finally did Week 7, Day 2 after 2 weeks straight of doing Day 1 and then crapping out. I was slower today than Monday, but I feel like I have no real problem doing 25 minutes now. Week 7, day 3 on Friday an then on to Week 8!
Go go, tdc and moi!
The Girl and I did Week 6, Day 2 tonight. A bit tougher than I expected, but doable. She did it quite easily, especially considering she hasn’t run with me in a while. She won’t run Day 3 on Friday because she has an early Saturday game and this disappointed her quite a bit. She asked if we could run earlier but I think it would just sap her too much.
Like jsgoddess said, “Ow”.
No running yesterday or today, it is raining cats and dogs. I want to run Friday onwards… It’s the only exercise I’ll get to do before the gym closes, and then I want to keep in shape for my travels to Baton Rouge (newly added) and Miami.
If you think that the thong will hurt then you can always chose not to wear one. It’s all good.
W5d2 done! The next one’s a biggie…no walking at all! I think I can…I think I can…I think I can.
You can do it. Just break it into five minute intervals in your head.
It wasn’t the thong part that made me go “Ow”, it was the running topless part…
OK, no raining today, so I should be able to go to the gym and run. Yay!
