I’ve been dog-ass sick for two weeks now - trying to run again tomorrow. My 5K is in TEN DAYS.
I did w6d1 on Tuesday and day 2 is scheduled for today. Tuesday was rough. I really wasn’t in the mood to run and put it off for a good while. I did it all though without too much issue. Running is getting easier, but it still isn’t any fun. I’m hoping I won’t procrastinate as much on today’s run.
Haven’t run due to rain since Monday. I may run today… I want to keep running until they close the gym and I’m out for vacation. Like I said, I may be able to run at my bro’s neighborhood, and I’ll bring clothes for that.
I’m sick, too. Generally my rule is that if an illness is above the neck (e.g., head cold) but does not involve a fever, I’ll run or work out.
Not today. It is all above the neck, but my sinuses are about to explode and I think I can/should give myself a pass.
You don’t need clothes in your own neighborhood? Cool.
Urrrrgh. I did okay, actually, although I’d planned a pretty easy day what with how sick I’ve been. But I just couldn’t get enough air into my abused little lungs, and I started to get stabbing pains in them.
On the other hand, I do suggest iTunesing some military cadences to run to. I ran really evenly and pretty well, actually, until I ran out of breath. Made me kind of want to bayonet something, though.
runner pat, thanks for the guidance: I’ll try extending bit by bit. At the moment I’m doing about a 6k workout (it’s a run around the lake, so it’s not very easy to shorten). It used to take about 37 minutes, but I’ve been improving and today I broke 34 minutes for the first time. Mind you, my legs did feel stiffer than usual when I finished.
Oh, and I’ll be getting some running shoes soon (I got them from a running shop yesterday, but I need to wait until Christmas so my daughter can give them to me). Should be a lot better than my old, worn, department store sneakers.
Well, not for running inside my own house.
But I do need clothes for the gym track. And I’ll need to put those clothes in my luggage when I leave next week.
Finished Week 7 last night. Just figured out that I ran about 2.7 miles in the 25 minutes, so 5K (3.1 miles, right?) should be just around the corner. Granted, that corner looks pretty tough from here, but it’s not insurmountable.
Ran today for the first time since Monday (yikes!). It was actually a good run, and I was alone on the track for the most part, since the gym (and the school… and the town) are mostly empty after the semester ended. Now I need to keep going until the 24th. Then hopefully I can run a day or two when I get to Miami (no running in Baton Rouge).
I finished week 7 no sweat! I’m really surprised how easy it was for me after it took me so long to get through six. I guess my body finally realized I wasn’t going to give up, so it might as well try.
I’ll be out of town for the next week, but hopefully I can fit in some running.
It’s been so warm here I’ve taken to running outside again (alas, no more, back down to 20s after a glorious week of 60s) - it goes so much faster when I’m running around the neighborhood and not the track! I could hardly believe it.
KarlGrenze, isn’t it wonderful? This week and the summer are so nice when everyone is out of town!
No running for me this week (so far). It’s too damned cold outside, for one. No time, for another. I’ll probably have to start over with 5:1s, at this rate.
I hate the hills, so I’ll stick to running in track… But I may update my running playlist a bit.
Summer was nice… I was actually surprised of the influx of people between Thanksgiving and the break… somehow they thought that by working out in the 2 weeks before vacation was going to make up for the whole semester of laziness?? I wish it would be that way!! I’ll have the whole semester to work out after my 2 weeks of laziness coming up!
I was bad last week. I only ran one day. I blame the fact that I’m a teacher and it was the last week before break. I’m at my parents house for a week or so and I’ve brought my running gear. Tomorrow is scheduled for my first outdoor run. I’ll be repeating week six, which will probably be good considering it starts easy and outdoor running scares me.
I haven’t done a full run since last Monday. I started working with a new trainer that day who urged me to save my cardio for after the training sessions - then proceeded to try to kill all the muscle cells in my legs on Wednesday. It was all I could do that day to run/walk a mile. Work got in the way of running the next 3 days. Today, I worked with my trainer again and due to being tired from that, and probably also some deconditioning, I still didn’t feel like I could run the whole thing. I did the treadmill’s 5K loop like usual, but I only ran about 1.75 miles of it.
I think what I need to do is suck it up and run after work (I typically work 12-hour shifts Tu, Th, and Sat), even though I always feel too mentally tired to do it, and do the elliptical on my off-days after working with my trainer. Yes… yes, I’ll try that.
I finally ran outside this evening. It sucked. I was trying to do the 5-8-5 day of week six. I ran five, walked three, ran 4, felt like my stomach was being stabbed with a thousand needles, walked some, ran a goodly amount more, walked home. I’m glad that I got out and did something, but I’m a little disappointed with the results. Friday is another day though. I’ll probably try 5-8-5 again Friday.
However, I did learn an important lesson this evening. If you’ve been running on a treadmill and you finally decide to run outside after a week break from running, picking the one night of the year that your entire neighborhood is outside setting up Christmas Eve luminaries probably isn’t the best time. I got to huff and puff and look like a doofus in front of all of the people I grew up around. What fun!
I went to the family mandated church Christmas Eve service tonight and ran into a guy I’ve known since fetushood there who told me he lives right behind the high school. Later, my mom said “Why didn’t you tell him you run back there?” I mean, are you INSANE? The last thing I want in the world is to be recognized in my running tights!
Got this sexxxxy ForeRunner under the tree. Will report on how awesome it is.
We picked up our numbers for the race today. I am not feeling so good about this.
Last Monday I pushed myself to my first 4 mile run. And my knee hurt again. So Wednesday’s run was a more gentle 30 min or so.
And today I tried out my new running shoes. Definitely better than the old sneakers. I’ll try another 4 mile run on Monday and see what happens.
And the pushups are still beating me: I still haven’t completed week 5 day 3. Maybe by next Christmas…
I haven’t run this week. I got sick with stuffy nose and sore throat. Today I’m better, but the gym is closed. I’ll try to run some laps around my bro’s neighborhood next week, as this weekend I’ll be in Baton Rouge.
All right, you lazy people with your sicknesses and your snow and your Christmas pudding - my race starts in an hour. I am surprisingly and ridiculously nervous - I didn’t even sleep. (I don’t know why, as I know exactly how it’s going to go - we’re not going to be able to run anywhere near 3 miles without stopping, and we’re okay with that.) It’s 49 and drizzling, when it was supposed to be 72 and sunny, but that’s probably a blessing. Wish me luck!
