jsgoddess, I don’t even want to know what the hell you typed to get “creamily” for “treadmill”. You must type like I do.
I started Week 2 this evening when I got home from work. Ow my knees ow my knees ow my knees. I pushed for the first half, then shambled like a 70 year old during the second half runs. Perhaps a happy medium can be achieved. I was able to run all of the intervals, so I’m jazzed. This is going to be hard work, but I’m sticking with it.
W1D2 finished. I kept floundering on whether it was easier or harder than day 1, so it was probably about the same. No mega-stitch in my abdomen this time, though.
Still no problems after I was done with doing 40 minutes on the elliptical. It’s kind of nice this way, actually - the elliptical program I do adds resistance to keep my heart rate up, so when I start immediately after the running, I’m already there. No need for the machine to make my work harder!
lorene, is it possible to do an adaptation of the program for the elliptical (doing faster turns, or increasing resistance)? Maybe then it won’t be so boring.
Week 9, run 1 was last night. It was tough! Yesterday was not a good day for 28 mins, much less 30, but I made it. Maybe tomorrow it will be better.
Don’t overdo it, though. I know thee, kiddo, and you do tend to get a bit OCD on these things. Maybe we can get together for some of the runs if I think I can hang with you guys. Where are you doing trail runs?
W2D1 finished last night! I almost backed out of it but then forced myself to run - lucky, it started storming almost as soon as I was finished.
Possibly icky question ahead:
No matter how much I feel sniffle free before, almost as soon as I start running the nose-works turn on. It’s kind of gross, and I started having to carry some tissues with me (makes it hard to keep stride when you keep having to blow your nose). Is there anyway to stop this?
I don’t know, but I would also like to know, since I suffer from a milder version of this (after the first half of my run, and it is not so bad as to carry tissues).
It happened to me in colder weather. I’m not aware of any cause beyond that’s just the way it is. Learn to blow “Snot Rockets”.
And wear long sleeves when you can.
I have that problem, too. It does help me to breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth, when I’m not sniffling TOO much. I asked a few years ago here and somebody recommended wearing machine washable gloves with soft absorbent backs to wipe your nose on. A practical solution, IMHO.
Yeah yeah, I know. I’ll be working up gradually, don’t worry, I won’t kill myself. If we think we can’t do the 10k we’ll just drop down to the 5k. My friend has picked the trail running locations so I’m not sure yet, but I’ll let you know.
I’ve gotten good at tucking three or four tissues in the sleeve of my layering piece or else in my pocket if I have one, and then blowing my nose as I run. Sorry but I can’t bring myself to blow snot rockets
I don’t have the runny nose issue, but I’ll keep the glove idea in mind for winter when I probably will have a runny nose. Nope, I get heartburn about 30 seconds into the first running interval. Ow.
Wow. I did my ‘off day’ recumbent bike ride today. My heart rate was about 10 beats per minute below usual. And that was after bumping the resistance by 10 watts.
What kind of forward motion? Does that mean landing from heel to toe (which I have a hard time remembering to do) or is it something different?
I completed W2/D1 yesterday and, although it was a little difficult, I wasn’t sore today. I know it’s early in my second week, but since I was really struggling with the last 15 seconds of my last run, I’m finding it hard to believe that I will be able to eventually run 30 minutes.
Oh well, W2/D2 tomorrow. It’s bound to be easier than yesterday, right? RIGHT??
