If I were you I’d try it. I mean, I was never able to do this before, because I was concentrating on time. If you do the podcast, you just focus on running (and the beat helps) and you get to stop when they say you can stop. The focus is IMHO a huge help, and it probably makes me more consistent and a “better” runner, form-wise, than slogging it through knowing “20 more seconds!” “10 more seconds!”, etc. You just think about your breathing and your movement.
The podcasts have helped me a lot. I think someone upthread mentioned a version of the podcasts that doesn’t have music.
There’s definitely a version where the guy stripped out the music so you can add your own, or just not have to cope with the techno stuff that Ullrey uses. Let me know if you’re interested and I can find a link (that stuffs on my home Mac).
Week 1, day 3 is done, and I’m officially further into the program than I got the first time I tried.
I’ve been running on a sore right foot - I think I’ve got some tendinitis - all week. It’s gotten to the point of visible swelling today, so I’m glad I have the next 3 days to be content with my regular non-impact elliptical workout!
Where on your foot? You should not run on this until it heals. Ice 3-4 times a day.
Please do. I’ve had that one song from the week 1 podcast stuck in my head all day and I HATE it.
We balance out. There’s one song on that week that I LOOVE.
It’s not the “Leave Me Alone” one is it?
I’m not sure. I’m having a tough time even remembering how it goes.
It’s around the middle and it’s a female voice. “I don’t feel ashamed, 'cause it’s always the saaaaame” (or something like that). Does that ring any bells?
If I get the stripped out version, is there a nice, easy way to add my own music? I could ask my boyfriend, but I’d get an answer that’s way too long and I’d end up trying to do it on his giant video editing station, which I break every time I touch. My music is all on my PowerBook - is there a nice free little Mac program I can use to chop stuff up and stick it in?
If anyone has an answer for a windows xp user, I’d really appreciate the answer too!
Download Audacity (for Mac and PC). Load up the stripped out MP3, add a second track and add your MP3 songs, mix down to a new MP3 and you will be done.
Of course, you should figure out your running cadence and beatmatch the songs and …
Si
W1D2 complete!
Yay me!
Also finished W1D2 today… it kicked my butt. Isn’t the 2nd day supposed to be easier than the 1st day?
For the 1st time, I wasn’t able to finish my after run bike ride.
Oh well. I did get all the running done.
Paging that_darn_cat or moi… can you forward your song list? Pretty please?
I did W2:D2 this evening, although my knees still hurt a bit. I was a little more concious of my form, and I omitted the part of my route with the big hill. I also took it a bit easier for the first couple of runs, then pushed myself on the last ones. It seemed to be a little easier and I didn’t suck wind as much. This is a huge accomplishment for me, just to have gotten this far. I’m so proud of everyone here that is doing this.
Tomorrow I do W2D3, and I really don’t feel I’ve mastered 90 seconds. It seems like 3 is going to be such a big jump… Of course I’ll give 3 the old college try, but I feel like maybe I need to do 2 again.
W2D2 is come and gone, and I’m feeling good! I slowed down my running for day 2 after the second half of day 1 ended up being more than I could take. Day 2 I kept up a slightly slower but steadier pace, and ended up covering more distance and feeling better.
Is anybody still keeping up with the pushups? I haven’t seen any reports in the last couple of pages.
Yes, if you count doing the first week over. Of course I started in Week 4, which may not have been the smartest thing. If I can’t do Week 5 next week I might just drop down and start over at Week 1.
I did W9D3 this morning. Next stop 10K
