C25k (Couch-to-5K) starting week of 9/21--who's in?

I should be starting in ::checks clock:: an hour and a half:eek: Right after work I’m going to the work gym and firing up the treadmill. I’ve loaded the pod cast (having bought a friggin’ ipod on which to do so), I have shoes, I think I’m prepared.

I’m already trying to do 45 minutes of yoga a day, so I’m not sure if also adding in the push-up challenge would just be too much. On the other hand, it would help me build up more arm and shoulder strength for the inversions and whatnot…hrrrrrrm…

As long as we’re talking running, I’ll take the opportunity to request some well-wishes for myself. I’m doing a thirty-kilometer race this Saturday, with the last twelve over some serious damn hills. Goal time: 2:45. Confidence level: High.

Go, Priceguy! You can do it! Whooo!

I must be crazy as I’ve signed up. I’ll go home and try it out, though I’ll have to find my watch so I can time myself. I can run, or rather have run years ago, but can not run 3 miles straight. I did swim 2 miles this morning, does that count for something?

Run strong Priceguy!

I’m doing my first 5K next month. My goal is under 30 minutes, but just running a 5K without walking will be a great accomplishment in itself

First run today. I pooped out during the last 60 seconds since I was coming up to my house. I very nearly died.

I do Bikram yoga so I’m not completely out of shape, but I haven’t run for two years (at which time I did [note: mostly walked] two fundraising 5ks and said NEVERMORE).

Please let us know how this goes for you. I’m sure you’ll do great. BTW, what are these “hills” you talk about?

Shibb in Florida, where we plant flags on top of speed bumps and claim them for the crown.

Shibb’s a Loyalist. I thought those were frowned upon in the colonies?

30K and hills?!? More power to ya, Priceguy! Pound those iniquitous humps into submission!

Dang - that is some running. I just did a 10km for charity. Running for three times that like seems a real challenge.

So go for it.

Si

I think I hate you people. I went for my first run tonight. I decided to start in week 3 since I’m in ok shape. The first few minutes were good. The last three were killer. I’m dripping with sweat and I need a shower. I did however find a 5k that I am going to try. The Way Station 5k on Thanksgiving. I didn’t see anything for this year, but I’m going to email them and see if it’s still on.

My YMCA (Towson) does the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving. I did it two years ago. It was a convenient excuse to leave the in-laws’ early, due to exhaustion.

OK. I’m going to give this a shot. Did my 1st today. It went pretty well, but it was harder than I thought it would be.

I’ve been doing elliptical trainer and recumbent bike for the last month and a half, pushing a little harder every day.

If I had started cold, it would have killed me.

I think I need better shoes though. On about the 2nd run, started to develop an ache in my shins.

Oh my god, y’all, I was doing it! I made it through five running intervals and ran the whole time through them - up until the second the podcast said to stop I was still moving at a shambling trot! Then my fucking iPod ran out of batteries and to end on a high note I just brisk-walked home. But I did more than half of it exactly as I was supposed to, and I don’t even feel terrible and awful now! Sweaty, yes, but not like I’m going to die. I did get the pains in my lungs, but not enough that I couldn’t keep going. (It helps that it wasn’t cold - I can’t handle the cold. And by cold, for running, I mean anything below 70.)

I think it’s because I was using the podcasts instead of a watch. I was focusing more on running and less on how much time was left. I’ve always been afraid to do that, though, as a woman out by myself - I keep it low but I don’t like the idea of anybody coming up on me without me knowing it. On the other hand, I don’t like how my thighs wobble either.

I saw a good seven or eight runners, all moving a hell of a lot faster than me, and one little old lady power walker who zoomed past me on my “run” interval. I wondered - do people up north not smile and wave at each other even when they’re jogging and they see another jogger? Or for that matter, any other person? You have that whole equation in your head - how far away do I have to begin the smile-and-wave? Too soon? Has he seen me yet? What if I smile-and-wave and he doesn’t? (And why do you never see a runner who looks happy about it?)

Seriously, I am so proud of me.

Way to go, Ginger, Priceguy, Zsofia, Fugazi, and Edward.

Good luck eleanor and rues and anyone else I might be missing.

I did my first day of push ups today. That’s pretty humbling. I was in column one and at the end the instructions were just “max.” I could do three. Ack! These are KNEE push ups!

But I finished, so I’m pleased.

I used to. These days I almost never do, just because I’m so damn focused. Sometimes I think a war could break out and I wouldn’t notice until I was home again.

You should be. Now keep making yourself proud.

Zsofia, I am just so proud of you!
Don’t forget to recharge your iPod next time, though.

On Sunday morning when we ran, we passed a lot of people and they all smiled, said hello, or both. Technically I’m in the south, but it’s practically northern in some ways here.

I try, but if I’m out of breath, forget it. Good on you, Zsofia for getting out there! And good on you, jsgoddess for starting this thread and not only running, but doing pushups (what are you, a masochist?).
I’m not at all sure about the pushup thingy, but I may give it a try at some point…
I did drive out another run route that gives me a 2 mile loop. This is my Everest at the moment. Wednesday I approach the “mountain”.

Go Zsofia! I did my first day today and I think the treadmill really helped, strangely… Left to my own devices I tend to try to sprint where as the tread mill allowed me to set a slower pace and stay there. I was slow, but I did it:)

Did the pushups too. (The weakling track, of course.) I didn’t know my carpet smells kinda funny.
