I’m trying to give myself a DIY film studies education and I’d really like to see Cabiria. (I did some film studies as an undergrad, but I’m trying to broaden my knowledge of film.) It should be within public domain, and it’s on YouTube, but apparently the music’s terrible.
Is there a better version out there? Or am I stuck with the lame music?
The film is in the public domain because it’s so old. A lot of silent classics get restored and reissued with new music. These versions are less likely to be in the public domain. You may have to rent the Kino restoration if you can’t find a better copy online.
I suspected as such. Unfortunately, I’m in Australia and it’s not commercially available here, so I’d either need to buy it from Amazon or just turn the sound down, as In Winnipeg suggests.
