I recently figured out that I consume less than 50%, and possibly less than 25% of my required daily calcium. In researching the effects of calcium deficiency, a few websites mentioned hypertension. However, I did find one study that seemed to negate the link.
Coincidentally, I do have hypertension. I am on medication, exercise regularly, have lost weight, and have reduced my sodium intake, but my blood pressure has not lowered. Does conventional medical wisdom suggest that calcium deficiency could be the culprit or a contributing factor, or has that been debunked?
I have a doctor’s app’t on the 25th, during which we will be discussing my blood pressure. I’d like to broach the subject of the calcium deficiency/hypertension link, but not if it’s complete nonsense.
Disclaimer: I am not asking for medical advice. I am simply curious about the possibility. I will be seeing my doctor. Finally, I have taken steps to increase my calcium intake, as I would prefer it if my bones didn’t crumble. I’m wacky like that.
