I need a real simple, cut to the chase type site to read about CA. laws. In particular, is operating a vehicle while uninsured considered against the law, and is giving an invalid insurance policy number (canceled weeks earlier due to non-payment) at the scene of an accident also against the law?

I just can’t muck through 1000 pages of fine print. I need the easy version, something I can print out.

It is most certainly very illegal in California to drive without insurance. Please see this DMV page.

The former is most certainly illegal. The latter might fall under “filing a false police report”, or just fraud.
