The way the US is today, it’s essentially impossible to do on a national level, and I don’t see that changing any time soon. At least on a state level, more rational states can make the change, and let their citizens benefit from it.
Maybe with a few years of evidence that society won’t collapse even if this happens in the US, the stupider states will finally figure it out.
This is correct. But for the history of the development of the Canadian system, it’s worth noting that it started with a single province deciding to do it.
