Announced about five minutes ago:
They just interrupted my depressing phone conference about the governor’s budget cuts to tell us. California finally lives up to its tolerance reputation.
Two thumbs up from the Great White North.
I’m absolutely shocked. I never thought they’d do it!
I’m sitting here at work unsure if I’m about to laugh or cry. This is just amazing.

I can’t believe it!
Congratulations!
No shit… when’s the last time you saw any common sense come out of CA?
This is great! Most of the Justices are Republican appointees, so I had my doubts as to what they would do.
Today, I’m particularly proud of my SDMB name.
I just hope the voters do the right thing with the proposed Constitutional amendment to limit the definition of marriage.
Does anyone have a link to the actual opinion?
You know, as much of an animus as I hold for Cali I have to admit that sometimes they do the right thing. This is fabulous news, and I hope it gives Oregon the kick in the pants it needs to overturn our Constitutional “One Man, One Woman” bullshit amendment.
Bet there’s gonna be a stampede to City Hall in San Francisco pretty quick!
Roxxorz 2 teh maxxorz, w00t!
This article has a link to the opinion.
Ditto.
Unfortunately, it’s far from over as the article goes on to say:
Should it pass, I have absolutely no clue where we’d go from there. I do know everyone in the organization is working extremely hard to get the vote out and combat the backward bigot vote.
Way to go, California!
Good for them.
w00t!
I now have a new budget item this year, to find and contribute my time and money (and sacred honor) to the campaign against this amendment.

Great news!
Funny note: I had CNN television on when the breaking news came through - the anchor read part of the blurb and their on-air legal expert listened and they both thought the ruling went against gay marriages. They totally mis-read the statement and gave the wrong info. It was only when I logged onto MSNBC that I saw the correct interpretation of the ruling.
A great day for California!
I’m a little misty eyed right now.
Congratulations! As a resident of Massachusetts, let me give you a little idea what things are like here as a result of gay marriage.
First of all, the streets have not run red with blood. Not a drop as far as I can see. As a matter of fact, I’m looking out my window now and everything looks pretty good. A little cloudy perhaps, but I am given to believe that there are legitimate meteorological reasons for that.
Secondly we don’t have any two headed babies or goats or anything like that. We do have a few unverified reports of cats and dogs living together, but considering that our two cats don’t get along at all, I’m reluctant to draw any conclusions.
Finally, Godzilla is conspicuous by his absence.
So if you guys can handle that, I think you’ll be OK. Good for you.
