Call of Duty: Black Ops

Bingo.

Ah, gotcha. I’ve never seen that used before.

I gotta tell yeah, I’m loving the Galil with silencer. I’m at level 24 so too early for the AK47 and while I like to mix it up theres no question I do far better with Assault Rifles.

I’ve also decided that sights are a waste of a weapon fitting, most of my kills are from around 50 to 100 feet and at that distance the stock sight of just about all the guns are good enough, and since they allow more peripheral vision are even better than the laser sights.

It depends on playstyle and preference, that’s for sure. The Galil with silencer and extended ammo gives you 50 rounds per clip, which is nice.

Lately I’ve really been grooving on the G11. There was a slight learning curve at first but now I love it.

Yeah, when I find one, I enjoy playing with it as well.

In order to get Marathon Pro you have to get 15 flag captures. Does this refer to capturing the flag in the CTF game mode (where you have to take the enemy flag to your own flag base) or can it be any ‘flag capture’? Such as in domination - staying near a flag while a bar grows?

And either way - any advice for playing this/these game modes? I tend to play FFA or TDM. I am a little out of my depth in objective game modes. I feel like I’d be cannon fodder or just not very helpful. (Cannon fodder if I attempt to capture an objective and get picked off by people camping the objective… or un-useful due to just not bothering with objectives)

ETA: Anyone else love the pure killing spree fest one can have by playing Combat Training? I know it’s not real people, but there’s something quite satisfying about creating a FFA game on Nuketown with maximum enemies and getting a 100/6 KD.

I love it. I feel like a ninja SEAL accidentally dropped into a roomful of kids playing with cap guns. It’s the only time I exhibit any competency.

Yes. Capture The Flag only.

Meh. You need to turn up the difficulty on Combat Training, then.

Darn. I was hoping I’d at least be able to get my fifteen flag captures without having to do the run-with-flag-to-enemy-base thing.

I tried it the other day, and while I didn’t do too badly in the basic killing and survinging way, I played like 5 or 6 games without capturing a single flag, and believe me I tried. (Albeit without taking huge risks).

So… Any tips?

I’ve played it on difficult too, and it’s fun. But it’s fun in a different way when the bots are easy and you can mow them down and get lots of kills.

Really? I’m not stellar but in attempting to capture a control point in either Headquarters or Domination I at least feel like I accomplished something, even if I end up dying in the process. Your death statistic is irrelevant and perhaps you killed a CP camper or protected one of your own thereby helping your team.

Bigger games are better, a rookie can really hurt a team of 3 especially if the otherside is claned.

Finished the single-player campaign the other day. It was frustrating as hell in some parts, but if you stick through with it, there’s one hell of a great reveal at the second-to-last mission.

And yes, JFK fighting Zombies is pretty much the greatest thing ever. Something about blowing a zombie’s head off and hearing JFK shout “ICH EIN BERLINER!”

In general, the plot works better if you try not to think too hard about realism or historical accuracy.

Multiplayer, a bunch of the guys in my squadron started a clan, so we’ve been teaming up in the evenings and having a ball with it. Me and the Vehicle Control Officer have a bit of a blood feud going.

To play capture the flag and get flag captures, the best way is to be there right when the flag comes back from being returned or captured by a teammate. The best way to be there at the right time is to have a lightweight/steady aim/marathon class with a shotgun or SMG, and tactical insertion. Drop your tac somewhere near the enemy flag, and when the flag is gone camp the area where it will reappear so you can grab it before the enemy can set up camping on it again. If you get into a game where the enemy is playing too much defense or your team is too bad, quit as soon as you realize it - I got marathon pro by pulling two or three easy captures in a good game, not one hellish one at a time per full length game where the enemy camps the defense.

Capture the flag with good teammates is great and CTF with lousy teammates is its own level of hell. I just bail when I realize they suck.

Another good tip with CTF is to trail (not too close) your teammate if he captures the flag. If he gets killed, take out the enemy and pick up the flag. When I grab the flag, I often try to head towards my team with the idea that I’m not going to make it all the way back, but that we’re going to be able to relay the flag back to base.

Also, if they capture your flag, you know where they are headed. I am amazed at the number of players who don’t start heading to the enemy base to cut off the flag runner. I think a lot of CTF players are more concerned with their kill/death ratio than with the objectives.

That’s been my major criticism so far… over half the guns your character[s] are wielding didn’t actually exist in the time period that the game is supposed to be set in. Now, I can handwave the crazy attachments (an AK-47 with a flamethrower on it? Sure, why not?) and obviously the game is designed to feel more like an action-war movie (which it succeeds at admirably), but I know for a fact that commandos in the late 1960s were not running around with silenced Steyr AUGs or Enfield SA-80s with crazy infra-red scopes on them.

On a similar note, I’m pretty sure Trijicon doesn’t make an ACOG scope for either the M-60 or the AK-47. Then again, this is the same series of games that depicted the ACOG’s glow-in-the-dark red dot reticule as being disabled by an EMP, which would not be the case (why yes, I am a nit-picker, thanks for noticing! :D).

There are plenty of red dot (holographic or collimator) sights for AK type rifles. Are you sure it’s modelling an ACOG?

Well, they call it “ACOG Sight”, for one thing

What kinda confuses me, is that there is ALSO a red dot sight and a reflex sight. Not sure what the difference between any of them is supposed to be, aside from the ACOG having a 2x zoom or something in the game.

Comments on the top guns in each category:

Wow, I reached level 44 and unlocked the G11, that gun isn’t even fair. I’d prefer it to have a suppressor, but still, even with the low power scope of adjustable one for larger maps that gun is solid vengeance.

I have no time for the Stoner63, small clip that gets burned through far too fast. The M60 is just as good and with a grip is a far better fire support gun.

The Kiparis sucks as well, not a lot of stopping power and the gun shoots its small clip far too fast. The AK74U has a lot more death in it’s clip and with the stopping power to cut through a few guys if they’re bunched together.

The HS10 is piece of crap, SPAS-12 all the way.

The PSG1 is solid, even with most of the maps making snipers useless. Especially with the kill cam on.

I got the game about 2 weeks ago, and with my new Xbox live account I’m trying my hand at playing online.

How does one go about getting those perks? I understand that they can really make the difference between 2 equal players…

And I need all the help I can get.

Does combat training and all that jazz explain all this crap?
