It’s past time for my cockatiel Nikita to have a new cage. I’m looking for wheeled metal cage, preferably dometop, and I’m having trouble searching online. Google takes me to a number of mediocre sites and I’m just wary of the quality and fear it’s all overpriced. I hope to pay around $200 for a tiel cage but I’m open to something more if the quality is backed up.
Any highly recommended sites you’ve used for avian cages or supplies? Ideally a lot of different cage types in case dometop is too tall. Any suggestions for offline places to visit would help too…my local craigslist has nothing I want.
I’m a big fan of the California Cage types. They’re heavy duty and powder coated, so they’re easy to wash. They come in a variety of sizes and colors and all the ones I’ve seen have wheels. California Cage is the best-known brand, but there are others that are similar.
I purchased a cage identical to this one for my cockatiel, mostly because it was large and cheap (I was on a grad student budget at the time). It’s of reasonable quality given the size and price, although I have since realized that bigger is not always better - it was a pain to clean and my bird didn’t really seem to care about the extra space. I’ve since moved her back to her old cage, and I think we’re both happier.
I’m pretty sure I got it from birdcages.com, what can I say other than they shipped it promptly and it arrived intact.
I noticed that a lot of the Chinese made cages were almost identical to each other, leading me to believe that many different brands have their cages made in the same factory. If I were purchasing another cage, I’d probably go with a higher-quality American-made one, just to ensure that it was lead-free.
