Calling cat lovers..

If your cat does not purr ( but does every thing else normally ) will you still love it ??

Don’t all cats purr as a reflex?

To your OP - yes of course.

I’ve never met a cat/kitten that didn’t purr.
Yes, of course, I would still love it!

Yep. If I bring an animal into my house as long as it is not so violent as to cause harm to people who come over (of it’s own accord, people who purposely annoy my cat until he feels the need to shred up their arm are on their own) I will love it as though it were my child.

One of my cats lost his purr (and his voice) in the last year of his life. He suffered from a number of health issues, and in the last year he got so skinny we thought he would go at any moment. He held on for another year though, because he was a stubborn little guy.

We affectionately called him “zombie cat” because he was walking skeleton. He would open his mouth as if to meow, but nothing would come out. Similarly, he would snuggle up against you and get a squinty face, but no purr.

We all loved him very much, despite his lack of meowing and purring.

Emma does purr, but unless it’s super quiet in the house, and you’re listening very closely, you can’t hear it, it’s so quiet. We still love her to itty bitty pieces.

You have to touch Dewey’s throat to feel the purr. Of course we still love him.

I have a kitty like Zsofia’s - you have to touch his throat to see if he’s purring. I can’t say it’s ever bothered me. We have a new kitten (very shy - no pictures yet) with a really loud purr, which I find rather startling after years of silent kitty snuggles.

I’ve got one of those. She still purrs but it’s harder to hear.

Daniel the Terrible doesn’t purr much at all as far as I’ve been able to ascertain. I still love the big lug.

i had a stealth purrer.

you had to have your ear on her to hear it. she wasn’t very cuddly but did have her moments.

Purring is great but it’s when they rub their faces on you that they really hook you.

I have a stealth purrer too - hardly ever notice when he is purring as he is so quiet. Still love him just as much though.

Sure.

We’ve had cats we never heard purr, and many more whose purr was very faint or hard to feel.

BTW they also purr when they are in great pain, or so I read in several books.

Even the feral cats purr when they allow me to pet them – purring is a reflex, and as such doesn’t make me like or dislike an animal anymore than otherwise. Likewise with tail-wagging on a dog.

Now, if my dog began purring – that would totally give him brownie points, but I wouldn’t like him any more than I do, I would just, ya’know make money off him

It’s not the purr that makes you love them… it’s their fuzzy kitty bellies!

Of course.

Same here. Mine is on “silent vibrate mode”.

My DLH “Bertie” purrs, but you have to lay your head on his body to “feel” it. Luckily, he’s the lovingest cat I have ever had, and he doesn’t mind me using him as my “comfy piller”. (I don’t lay my head on him with ALL the weight, though!:))

PS: I love all cats whether they purr or not. I also love dogs. Guess that makes me “Bi”, doesn’t it?
