Calling Doper Squeegee - are you okay? (Hummingbird fire)

Our Morgan Hill/Gilroy area experienced a strange thunder and lightning storm this past Saturday, and there was a lightning strike fire in an area where my boss lives and where Doper Squeegee lives. It was 91 degrees here and raining simultaneously, which is almost unheard of for this area. It felt like Hawaii!

I hope you see this and check in, Squeegee. Did you weather this one okay? It got quite close to my boss’s house, and they and their animals were packed and ready for evacuation, but luckily it passed them by and they unpacked without having to leave.

I’ve e-mailed Teela. I’m fine, though it was pretty scary for a while. The fire missed my locale, but only by a hairs breadth I think. I’m touched that someone would start an SDMB thread to check up on my safety, and I’m sorry I left Teela waiting for a couple of days until I finally saw this thread. Thank you, Teela.

Hummingbird arsonists? Are they teaming up with the Killer Bees to seek revenge for all the ants and centipedes we have killed over the years? Mommy, hold me.

Yeah, I haven’t heard yet why they called it the Hummingbird Fire. Maybe they should call it the Peacock Fire, in homage to the birds Squeegee has posted about.

Northern California is still rife with brush fires, and we’re choking in stagnant smoke here in the bay area. And I see on the weather news we’re due for more possible dry storms with heat lightning this weekend. I wish to hell it would bring some real rain and put the fires out and clean the air. It stinks!
