Campaign vs other ads

Although I live in MN, most of my TV stations are Wisconsin based (actually some have antennas and one has a studio in MN, but they are officially WI channels), and so I have been bombarded with president and senate ads.

I’m not here to talk about the content of those ads. What I’m wondering with most of the ad time sold to “the committe for goodness and light” are manufacturers who want to advertise soap or chia pets or socks told:

  1. A very high ad rate
  2. Sorry, all our ad time has been bought
  3. Something else

I would imagine a very high ad rate. There’s been stories about late campaign buys and how $1 for the actual Obama/Romney campaigns is worth more than $1 for some PAC. Because the stations, by law, have to give the bona fide campaigns their lowest ad rates but can charge everyone else market value.

So I assume Chia Pet, Inc can get their ads on the air as long as there’s any remaining slots and they’re willing to pay the same as FreedomWorks.

I’ve actually seen a lot of Chia Obama/Romney ads recently. So they’re getting on the air somehow.

You’ll get no sympathy from those of us in Ohio.
