Hi folks I’m a newbie and there are some things here I would like your op on. First off let me say that I like to spend a lot of time in IMHO cuz’ well, I guess I’m just an opinionated SOB. I do however find myself holding back alot on posting a reply to peoples threads becuase I feel “guilty” (for lack of a better word) about dredging something back up to the top of the board. I also feel guilty for making too many post in too short of a time.
Now what I want to know is A) should I feel guilty for draging something back to the top of the board and B) can someone go overboard on posting too much.
Also can some one tell me how to make the letters small? I’ve been wanting to ask this for a while but I didn’t feel like it was worth starting a thread. I didn’t see how to do it on the vbcode page.
A) Depends on how old the thread is that you drag back up. A year old thread was dragged back up in the BBQ Pit tonight. That was too old. If it’s been a month or so and you have something new and relevant to add to it, that’s not so bad. Do a search in ATMB for mod opinions on this.
B) I don’t think so. But I had a couple hundred posts my first night because I got in on The Last Word game thread.
Small font is made by typing {sub} text {/sub} for dropped down and {sup} text {/sup} for higher text. Substitute brackets for {}.
There’s no need to feel guilty about “dragging someone’s thread to the top.” That’s why people post, after all, for other people to read and reply.
People can go overboard on posting, I suppose, but don’t worry about that yet. You’ll probably have some periods of high-posting and some periods of low-posting. You might just be posting a lot because there’s currently a lot of discussion you find interesting, or even just because of the novelty of a new website. Next week or next month, you’ll find yourself posting less because there’s not as many threads that you’re following, and then another week after that your posts will increase again, and so on.
To make the small type, use {sub}{/sub} and {sup}{/sup} (but with [ and ] instead of { and } around the codes).
Hi SHAKES! On the dragging threads back to the top bit, you should only do that if you have something relevant, original or witty to say. Don’t do it just to do it, or because you thought the OP was clever. Also please check out the ATMB forum, do a search a ways back, look through some stuff there, and practice new posting techniques in there.
Just remember. Make sure all your posts are truly relevant. Never ever ever pad your post count by giving irrevelent advice. Follow this and you will do well.
welcome. You didn’t ask for newbie advice but I’m sending some your way. It’s worth its price.
Watch your read/post ratio. This depends on the forum. In general, read 10 times what you post (especially in the beginning) so as not to appear a fool. this will also help your ‘dredging’ issue.
My personal guidelines:
GQ: 3:1 I only open a thread if I think I can contribute.
IMHO: 5:1 Again, I only open if I think I can add something worthwhile.
MPSIMS: 20:1 I go here for general reading
The Pit: 18:1 Agian, I go to read. I don’t really post in the pit 'cause I’m afraid I’ll say something stoopit and get blasted to Val Halla and back.
