can Animals detect the Approach of death?

the interesting bit is not that the kitty would cuddle up to them. it is that if the door was closed the kitty would pace the door until death occured on the other side of it. then just walk away.

one nurse said they tried putting the cat out and closing the door, didn’t stop oscar from hanging around.

yes, cat do get upset by closed doors. they don’t just walk away though.

it is an interesting tic and one i’m sure has had its moments of humour.

it would be interesting if he could pick up on sudden attacks of death, ie heart attacks or veins bursting, blood clots in lungs, etc.

Since this is GD

I think it only sporting to let me know which is your generation.

I don’t think I’ve discounted anything.

I’m almost sure that what I’ve done is to ask questions.

If I have been dismissive of anything, it is of the idea that there could be some “oneness” that could be “left.” If there is but one, how can there be another that is away from it?

Can Animals detect the approach of death?
[ul]Humans can detect the approach of death.[/ul]
[ul]Humans are animals.[/ul]
[ul]Therefore, Animals can detect the approach of death.[/ul]

I’m sure you can predict the rhetorical device my syllogism is meant to imply.

As for research, all I need is some grant money, a sack full of cats and some humans that haven’t died yet.

I wish you good luck on your research.

Thanks.
Chowder helped a lot.

Cats certainly don’t have psychic/magical powers, but their senses do cover a broader range–or at least a different specific range–than ours.

Here’s another totally anecdotal story: My parents wound up watching my sister’s cat for a month. They got along fine with the cat. A few weeks into it, my mom started a chemotherapy program, and the cat wouldn’t come near her. Not much of a reach to guess that the chemo made her smell different to the cat, and not in a good way.

“Whats the matter, Lassie? Is Timmy in trouble? Why are you looking at me like that?”

Maybe the cat got his tongue.
