I thought only a woman who had given birth, no matter how long ago, could produce milk. Recently a girlg I know insisted that the baby’s suckling action stimulated something in any adult woman that could produce milk and that she had just written a univerisity exam on it. Despite the fact that she apparently studied this phenomen in detail, she sounded really vague.
Whats up?
Women who have nursed before can often induce lactation merely by suckling an infant. It’s not 100% but it is quite common.
It’s not as easy for a woman who’s never nursed, or even been pregnant before, to induce lactation like this. But it’s not impossible.
Treatment with the hormone prolactin can even make men produce milk.

Indeed, I’ve heard of adoptive mothers, and even lesbian couples, who’ve induced lactation to breastfeed children.
