Found on Mattaponi Indian Reservation, near West Point, VA. We found tons of these on the ground. Do not believe it is a gall. Thanx!

Any black walnut trees around there? If it has a slight citrus smell to it, it’s probably a rotted walnut husk.

I thought they looked like walnuts, too, and the Mattaponi Indian who tasted it (!!) said it was bitter, but I wouldn’t know a Walnut tree if it walked up and bit me… you know. It’s 90 min from here, so I’ll have to wait a while before I can try and go back to ID the trees. Thanks for the reply. :slight_smile:
