Can anyone recommend a curly hair product?

If you’re watching your budget, Sally’s Beauty Supply carries a similar line called Hair One. One month ago, my hair was a total disaster. Naturally curly, frizz remiscent of an asploded Brillo pad, just a general mess. Eight “shampoos” in, my hair is now incredibly soft and manageable. I have beautifully smooth curls and tons of body that I can’t help but touching. I add in a few pumps of Argan Oil for the extra moisture content, and I can’t believe the difference.

I’ve had good luck recently after washing (conditioning, really) with Aussie brand “Sprunch” mousse. It holds its shape most of the day (if I can keep from fiddling with it) and doesn’t have the sticky look that I get with some things.

When I have some extra cash I like Aveda’s Be Curly line.

I wash mine every three-five days. I wet it down and the Friz Ease reactivates - I don’t even put more in.

I like Aveda’s Be Curly line as well, but it can be pricey.

I have used Tosca Style for 6 years mainly for the results, but also because their products are sulfate free. They have a Curl Line and if it’s anything like their Repair Line…you will have gorgeous curls. Good Luck! They ship everywhere!

Oh and one other thing, if you don’t do this already, instead of brushing, gently comb your curls with a wide tooth comb. The make combs likethisspecifically for curly hair.

One trick I learned from a stylist: after washing, apply a product such as a leave-in conditioner or anti-frizz serum, then twist your curls into ringlets using your fingers while your hair is still wet. Blow dry with a diffuser or leave them alone to air dry. Try to keep your hands off your curls as much as possible while they dry; touching them will only add frizz.

Shaping my curls by twisting them around my fingers works better for me that just scrunching them. The latter gives me too much of that crunchy 80s permed look. Plus you can control how big or small you want your curls to be when you shape them with your fingers.

Brazillian Blowout shampoo & deep conditioner, then apply Wavy Woman Curl Cream.

I love Bumble & Bumble’s Curl Conscious line. I’m like ZipperJJ - I’m strictly wash, slap some product in, and go kind of girl. I refuse to have any kind of hair cut that requires time spent with a dryer, brush, & product in front of a mirror to work.

I use the Curl Conscious shampoo & conditioner, then use a 100% cotton T-shirt to wrap my wet hair in (helps prevent some drying/frizzing better than regular towels). I’ll use any moose (though the B&B Curl Conscious Holding Foam is fantastic, just pricey) from the pharmacy that says “Curl” in the title. Air dry, and then if I’m going out later I’ll use the B&B Calming Creme with a little a Reactivating Mist and scrunch it into my curls.

I’m going to second the coconut oil, which I’ve recently been experimenting with as part of the keto diet.

Let me start by saying I have really stupid hair. It’s wavy with a lot of curl in back, under the top layer. But the waves are really fragile: if I brush it, it’s now straight. If I use any product in it, it goes straight. Conditioner: straight. The only time it looks good is when it’s too dirty to be seen in public.

I started doing the no-poo thing about three years ago, just using baking soda and water to wash it with. Now it’s less flat, but it is sort of dry and frizzy. A vinegar rinse makes it soft but you guessed it, straight.
So after my last shower, I tried the coconut oil as body moisturizer and then with the tiny amount of oil left on my hands, I gingerly scrunched through my hair. Just the ends, not the scalp.

OMG. I could tell right away it was gonna work. My hair was bouncy and curly and soft but still with lots of body. I do absolutely nothing to my hair besides wash it, no blow drying or curling, etc. Looks great, not greasy at all.

My hair looks very much like OP’s link #2 after I style it (although I go for more natural curls and less shine than in this photo). Normally it’s naturally wavy (mildly wavy). I think what I have going for me is thick hair, so if you also have thick hair, try this:

At the end of the shower, after shampoo/conditioning, bend over forward so that all your hair is hanging upside down and run your fingers through it once or twice to separate into thick “pieces”, then scrunch to wring out excess water and to begin forming into curl shapes (your natural curl will help with this)

Step out of the shower with your hair still hanging forward and draw a spread-out towel up to your head to compress all of the curl shapes to your scalp, then wrap the towel and secure it. It will kind of set as the towel wicks away excess moisture. I usually get coffee and put out clothes and check email and whatnot which gives the towel a chance to soak up a lot of the water.

By the time I unwrap it, it’s only damp. I use Sebastian texturizer gel (2 dime sized dollops and scrunch it into my hair, ends and roots. I keep the thick scrunched pieces intact as much as possible- this will form the big curls.

I bend over forward and use a dryer with one of those big bowl diffusers and allow the big curls to sit in the bowl for 15 second segments, moving the bowl around my head until my hair is only slightly damp.

Then I stand up and use my fingers as a giant curling iron to roll and train the hair backward away from my face and allow the hot air to hit that for a few seconds (otherwise the hair will want to fall down over my eyes when it’s dry)

Next I use Redken #10 Guts spray at the roots of the crown of my head, and a little bit of a thicker bodifying gel (nothing too sticky) at the ends, and then bend forward and hit it with the bowl diffuser until the product dries (usually only 30 seconds or so)

I gently shake it out when I’m done (the less you shake/separate, the more singular curls you have, so that part’s up to you)

Then hit it with some flexible hold hair spray.

I suppose this sounds a little high-maintenance, but I get it done within 15 minutes, and I’m told nearly on a daily basis that I have “kill-for” hair. So I’m willing to put in the 15 minutes of effort for those results.

I think if nothing else, drying your hair while it’s in thick pieces with a little bit of product will hold those pieces largely intact after drying. The rest of it is habit that I’ve done since I was 20.

Here’s a quick snap of my hair today. I shake it out to separate the curls for a more natural look

Thanks guys! I ordered some Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk and am planning to try the Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer.

xanthous holy crap! You do have kill for hair. I think my hair has a bit more curl than yours, but I really admire the results of your regimen.
