Can anyone recommend a resonably priced hotel in Manhattan?

I stayed last Tue/Wed nite at the Hudson Hotel for $150/nite. Not sure if price was that low because someone at the office booked it last minute (literally, on the day I had to stay).

Decent location, decent hotel. You can walk to almost anything “touristy.” It’s a “boutique” hotel attached to what seems to be one of the trendiest bars in Manhattan.

Note that the room was very small - prob something like 8 ft wide by 16 ft long. But as mentioned upthread, you won’t be using the room for anything but sleep (well, and other things associated with beds and newlyweds  )

ETA: In my experience, and I tend to stay a few nites per month in NYC on business, $150 is very cheap in Manhattan for a hotel room.

I stayed at the Hudson once. It was in fact when I was going to NYC for a dopefest.

On the plus side, it was a decent hotel in a convenient location (just off Times Square). Its prices for Manhattan were reasonable (like rexnervous, I paid $150 a night). Plus they had an arrangment with a local garage that let me park my car as part of the hotel fare. A significant savings in Manhattan where you can pay as much just to park your car as you’d pay in other cities for a hotel room.

The down size was that it was the smallest hotel room I’ve ever seen. I work in a prison and this room literally had less space than a prison cell. It had a king-size bed with about two feet of clearance between the bed and the walls. It was okay with me as I just wanted a bed, toilet, and shower. But not good if you’re a couple and plan on spending any time in the room.

I just got back from NYC, spent the weekend of the 17th to the 19th there. Stayed at the Wellington. It was an older building, hallways not air conditioned (rooms are), and surly staff. That said, the location can’t be beat. It’s at 7th Av and 55th Street. Three minute walk to Central Park, five to Times Square, half an hour from LaGuardia to the hotel via bus to Astoria and W/N subway. Carnegie hall is on the next block up 7th. According to the website, depending on your dates, rates start at $139, and range up to $209.

All said, I’d stay there again.

My wife and I stayed a few nights in the Big Apple Hostel mentioned above when we went to NY and we had a private room, which I don’t think set us back too much. The location was great too, it was on a side street coming off Times Sq.
