My daughter is fascinated by a “game” they have on the kids computer at the library. It’s a simple sandbox, and you can drag icons of villages, roads, hills, lakes, and so forth onto the map, and they appear on the screen. So you can build a little country and admire it.
Now, this game/sandbox looks like it’s at least 10 years old, and it’s very very simple, so I’m sure something like it exists as a flash game somewhere.
Other building games would be interesting, like building a house, or a park, or what have you. Can anyone recommend something similar, something simple enough for a 5 year old to play?
You’d be surprised what a 5 year old can grasp. Not sure about Flash games though. I’d try the older 2-D Roller Coaster Tycoon, IIRC it has a sandbox mode, which doesn’t require spending money to build things. The 3-D version is much nicer but the camera may prove too difficult to deal with.
Also a Sim City or Zoo Tycoon game might fit the bill.
I’ve posted this here before, but my daughter used to build an enclosed fence in Roller Coaster Tycoon and put the people who threw up in there until they felt better. I thought that was an interesting approach.
Sim City 4 is good. I hear that Sim City Societies is a little dumbed down and simplified version of the game if you want to go that route.
Todays free game is My Farm and a kid below teen level should like it. There is a new game everyday, and you have only to the end of the day to install it.
