Can anything in a car engine give off a rotten meat smell?

Exactly what I was thinking as well. I still remember when my Basic Auto teacher told us that story, it was so disturbing, and yet…, amusing.

No, ethylene glycol is not odourless. You can open a new batch of antifreeze and check it out. In fact, it has a fairly distinctive odour which tugs at the heartstrings of mechanics, in a similar manner to burning brake pads, brake fluid, ATF, Castrol, and of course, Marvel Mystery Oil.

I doubt you had any toxic level from the fumes. You can drink a bit of it before it kills you - certainly a lot more than you would have got from any exposure in the car. It’s likely that people who work in radiator shops get more exposure in a day than you did the whole time. And look, some of them live to be at least 40! :wink:
