I was playing an older game Crimson Skies, and late in the game, there’s a mention of a Cargo ship bound for Berlin from New York.
I’m not too familar with German geography other then the general locations of the major cities, but I know that Berlin is a ways inland. It appears to have a river (the spree) running through it, but I don’t know how big it is or if it’s conductive to ocean going freigthers…
Does anyone know enough about Berlin to answer this question.
It looks like it, at least small freighters. Maybe not huge container ships and oil tankers. Here are the ports in the Berlin area from Wikipedia.
Berlin is connected to the German waterway system (via the Havel river) but the freighters using this system are low-freeboard canal/river type freighters - it would be foolhardy trying to cross the Atlantic with them. Freight from New York to Berlin would be transshipped from oceangoing to inland freighters in places like Hamburg.
