Not up to him to decide.
“Listen to the people who’ve known me best through my whole life, the women who have known me since high school, the 65 who overnight signed a letter from high school saying I always treated them with dignity and respect.”
Yeah, about those 65 women…turns out you didn’t really treat them all with dignity and respect, now did you?
Elllllllllison…I know the Senate’s grilling you, oh, Ellllllison
This is all happening very fast, and even if we assume the allegations are not true, there could be good reasons for him to not react impulsively. Would you want someone on the SCOTUS who was prone to acting impulsively on legal matters?
How did the Kavanaugh nomination end?
Two ways. Gradually, and then suddenly.
Sometimes dirty tricks are the only way to teach somebody the consequences of setting aside customary rules and boundaries. Recall the scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid where Butch asks Harvey about the rules for their imminent fight, Harvey contemptuously says “No rules!” – so Butch immediately kicks him in the nads and knocks him out.
You’re confused. Swetnick’s allegation is NOT that HE raped her (or drugged her, AFAICT). She said:
“In approximately 1982, I became the victim of one of these “gang” or “train” rapes where Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh were present.”
Probably because, at this late date, it’s going to be as hard to prove a negative as it is to prove he raped his way through highschool, as many in this thread are leaping too. What do you think an investigation is going to find at this point? Perhaps you’ll have several people claim something happened. But to separate events that don’t seem related, and with a lot of holes and questions (even to ‘what day did this happen?’ and ‘where did this happen?’) And several people who claim nothing happened. You’ll have the prime suspect and accuser(s) making contradictory statements. You’ll have no physical evidence.
Unless a number of people who witnessed similar things AT THE SAME EVENT come forward and give compelling enough testimony you aren’t going to get Kavanaugh on anything you could prosecute him for. Turn that around though…how would you convince people, especially many in this thread that none of this happened at all? They are convinced at this point that he’s guilty. So, what does he gain if there is an investigation that says, basically, that there isn’t enough information to determine he’s guilty of a crime? Which, frankly, is the best he could hope for.
Of course, this isn’t about a court of law…it’s about keeping him from the USSC. I figure once that happens (and I think the odds are good it will at this point), I doubt any investigations will go forward, or if they do that the public (or this board) will care that much about them, outside of the really passionate folks like iiiandyiii. Because I suspect that there simply isn’t going to be enough hard evidence for either a conviction or to prove full innocence. Just enough to question his character.
Ditka, how many more women do you need to hear from before you throw in the towel? 10? 20?
Yeah, and if it is true, I would hope that Swetnick could name one of them.
That is an important and very alarming post.
Nevermind Kavanaugh, if individual recollection is that unreliable, how can a jury ever convict anyone of rape? Most crimes leave physical evidence, but it’s not like rape leaves little crumbs of non-consent all over the room. Would a victim need multiple witnesses to the crime? An mpeg? Someone please convince me I’m being hysterical (ha!) and just need coffee and a sandwich.
She was drugged for the rape. She doesn’t know for sure who raped her.
She does know that Kavanaugh participated in prior rapes, and that he was present when she was raped.
It’s another 2+2 type situation.
How is calling for an investigation acting impulsively? He could and should have done this at the start. It would have saved us some money for starters.
True.
No. She literally does not say that. She says that she saw him outside a room where she says girls got raped, she never witnesses any rapes at all, or even states how she knows that girls got raped.
Its another x+y=z situation, where “z” confirms/not confirm depending on your political position and x and y are unknown.
I’d like to see at least one with some corroborating witnesses.
More victims.
So we’re in agreement; let’s slow down this whole process and investigate the allegations thoroughly.
She saw him waiting in a line of boys who were taking turns raping a girl. What do you suppose he did when he got to the front of the line? Order a bagel?
Yes, we are in agreement. I said that days ago when the “gang rape” talk first started. If any of these allegations are true, I want Kavenaugh to burn.
Should an investigation bear fruit, I would also like an investigation into how 6 FBI background checks, going all the way up to a supreme court nominee, couldn’t sniff out a known GANG RAPIST.
We need more about the Kavanaugh rape aspect. In the statement, it’s always in quotes, “raped” the girl, “gang rape”, “train”, etc. I don’t know why or how she would know it was non-consensual sex.
