Can Democrats actually stop the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh?

Meetings are not run on autopilot. One of the roles of the person running the meeting (in this case the chairperson) is to interject when he or she thinks it’s necessary.

I figured it had to be Alexandra Petri.

Can you come up with one that is less likely but remotely possible?

They’re getting a lot of mileage out of that Biden quote.

I missed a lot of his testimony unfortunately. But I am listening to the recaps on NPR.

I don’t expect even a judge to have zero emotion. But the guy didn’t even try to control his defensiveness when questioned by the Dems. Yes, they were pointed questions, but I didn’t hearing any outrageous ones. Like, when asked if he had ever gotten black out drunk, why did he have to turn the question around like that? Why not answer it in the sincerest way possible and use the hearing to show he was above the partisan fray?

Criminal defendants know better than to act a fool like that…and in their case, their lives are actually hanging in the balance. If your average defendant can answer prosecutory questions without sarcasm or hostility, surely a potential SC judge should have that ability.

It is the only explanation that has been offered. If you have one, post it.

But he’s not a criminal defendant. He’s Brett Kavanaugh, graduate of Georgetown Prep and Yale. Mere peons like criminal defendants may have to keep their savage emotions in check, but towering figures like Kavanaugh must let that majestic anger pour forth! Truly breathtaking to behold!

Once again refusing to answer questions.

That’s nice. Sure, the FBI might not reach conclusions, but the whole idea is that they’d provide additional information to help the Senators reach their conclusions.

Pretending that Biden made some killer remark that refutes the whole notion that an FBI investigation might be appropriate or useful here is such total bullshit.

So Sen. Sasse is perturbed by the ranking senator’s failure to raise the allegations earlier, but on the other hand believes that Dr Ford is a victim who’s been through hell.

Which is it, coward? Who’s the victim here?

Is he suggesting a giant penis descended from the heavens and struck her like a bolt of lightning? Is he suggesting she was victimized in the dark and can’t confirm who subjected her to the assault?

I think the GOP’s bottom line is that if a girl doesn’t wanna be raped, then she should avoid parties and alcohol.

Bingo. Criminal defendants know they’re not entitled, but Kavanaugh knows he IS entitled!

Wow, Grassley and the Judge seem angry and defensive.

God. Every time he talks, he sounds like he belongs back in high school.

In all fairness, he’s probably waiting to spring the Pod People Theory until it has Maximum Dramatic Impact.

Blumenthal was just asking him about a quote where he states he had to piece the night back together after stumbling out of a bus. So, yeah. He’s a blackout drunk.

Anyone want to try spinning the quote about stumbling out of a bus, and trying to “piece together” the events of the previous night, as anything aside from being blackout drunk?

I don’t have the full quote handy. Do you? Kavanaugh said “stumble out of the bus” (at least) wasn’t referring to him.

Without the full quote, it’s going to be difficult for either side to draw concrete conclusions.

Yeah, I thought the same thing much of the time.

How is he getting away with lying about that Renate quote. She flat out said that it was not what he is saying it was:

“I learned about these yearbook pages only a few days ago,” Ms. Dolphin said in a statement to The New York Times. “I don’t know what ‘Renate Alumnus’ actually means. I can’t begin to comprehend what goes through the minds of 17-year-old boys who write such things, but the insinuation is horrible, hurtful and simply untrue. I pray their daughters are never treated this way. I will have no further comment.”
