Just gotta say, temperament is a significant issue in any judicial job I’ve heard of at any level. Really hard to imagine anyone who thinks this guy exhibits such.

He is stating that him and his buddies were honoring her friendship. So, she is flat out saying that it is not about honoring her friendship. That’s not hard to understand.
Are you suggesting it would be “horrible, hurtful and simply untrue” to insinuate that they were friends with her and thought she was a nice lady?

I’ve found the full quote and I’m prepared to take a crack at it:

The quote is from a 2014 speech, in which Kavanaugh said " a classmate of mine and I were reminiscing and piecing things together the other day". “The other day” would seem to suggest that “piecing things together” was sometime contemporaneous to the 2014 speech, not the law school party several decades earlier.
I think Kavanaugh and Graham have succeeded at making this vote an acid test of party loyalty. That works very well for Republicans. I think that improves his odds of being confirmed, despite (or perhaps because of) his unhinged partisanship at the hearing.

I’ll give him kudos for being somewhat even-handed: “her truth”; quoting Keyser’s quote and acknowledging that ‘that supports your statement’ (ETA: listening live, so that may not be an exact quote, but that was the gist of it) before bringing up that she said she believes Ford; etc.
God I hope Beto O’Rourke beats Ted Cruz. The man makes me cringe.
