Much less a set of briefs.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that.
Amusing? No.
Chilling? Yes. Accurate? Yes. A damning indictment of the despicable state of the US justice system? Yes.
I actually hemmed and hawed a bit over the word amusing in that post. It is definitely not the right word, but I couldn’t think of a word that accurately portrayed how I felt about it and amusing was the only thing in the ballpark.
Chagrin, noun, the smile born of bitter irony.
Kavanaugh former Yale classmate says he was lying about his drinking because she was there drinking along with him.
No, the Demonrats will never be able to stop Brett Kavanaugh. Lindsey Graham, in his amazing speech, pretty much exposed the Democrats for their baseless, hateful allegations against Kavanaugh and his family.
Since there is a good chunk of the Democratic Party base, the cultural left, that hates religion, particularly Christianity and Christian values in particular, it makes sense to see why they are so against Kavanaugh, a devout Roman Catholic and leader of his community.
Those asshats can suck it.
Holy mother flurking Poe’s law!
Following the Kavanaugh/Blasey Ford hearing on Thursday, America Magazine, a Jesuit publication, published a piece titled, “The Editors: It is time for the Kavanaugh nomination to be withdrawn.”

“Everyone”? Really?
This thread sure moves fast. I am way behind but I wanted to say that I think it’s possible that Senator Flake set-up the encounter with the two sexual assault survivors at the elevator in order to give him cover for:
- Demanding an FBI investigation
- Voting “no” in the committee
- Voting “no” in the full Senate vote.
If this is true (and it’s pretty out there) I wouldn’t think it was slimy. I’d judge it to be merely the sort of Bizarro Kabuki needed in this political climate to allow him to vote like thinking, rational humans do.
Note: Bizarro Kabuki should be the name of your daughter’s next band.
The speaker/crier in the elevator with Flake was on Anderson Cooper. She sounded sincere. But, who really knows?
He voted “yes” in committee.
The dog that didn’t bark in the night. I mentioned earlier that it occurred to me that one motivation for this sudden turn of events was public feedback. Like a brief mention of Lindsey Graham’s website being down "for maintenance ".
But I’ve been checking for reports and finding nothing. Which strikes me as odd, given how much whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on. At least you usually got guys on each side saying that their switchboards are humming with Americans wildly approving of whatever they just said or did. But not, apparently, this time, or maybe just not yet.
Could prove to be a three-pipe problem.
I suspect a good number of the Senators have left D.C. for home.
Personally, I think Flake is being a good guy and trying to find a sane middle path through the partisan hysteria engulfing this affair. Regardless of what happens, I think having a brief FBI investigation and a one week break before a final vote, will increase the legitimacy of the process. If Kavanaugh is ultimately confirmed, the FBI investigation will help his long-term credibility and legacy and that of the Supreme Court.
More cynically, Flake may be positioning himself for a Presidential run if the Trump presidency flames out completely and Republicans want a candidate who is solidly conservative but has maximum distance from Trump. Of course the cynical explanation does not invalidate the sincere one, it could be a combination of both and often is in such situations.
“Demonrats?” Way to make your opinions irrelevant right out of the gate.
One important thing the week’s delay provides is time for “…polls, polls, polls, polls, polls, polls, polls…” (per a recent 538.com podcast). If (any non-partisan) polls are running more than a few percentage points negative re: Kavanaugh, he’s likely toast. But don’t cry; the Republicans will surely manage to ram through another conservative, probably even a devout Catholic, since that seems to be important to you.
I’m starting to change my mind about this FBI investigation. People are coming out of the woodwork to call Kav out on his BS. This is going to make things real easy for the FBI.
This doesn’t look good for ol’ Ralpie.
Yeah, we’re talking about a guy whose judicial opinions have nearly all been on the side of the rich and powerful, to the detriment of “the least of these.” Funny Christian values, those.
I attended middle school and the beginning of high school at another prep school, also supposedly a religious school, in the same sports league as Georgetown Prep. Those years weren’t exactly the happiest years of my life, but I did learn some useful life lessons. Like: thugs in coat and tie are still thugs.
And thank goodness for that. At this time yesterday, it looked like they’d be in town right now, running down the procedural clock so that they could vote as soon as possible.
