Just wondering if you are a type 1 or 2 diabetic can you apply and be accepted to Fire Depts. and Police Depts (both OPP and/or local Police force)? What if you are already on the force or in the Dept and become one, what then?
I really think that you’d need to ask someone in Human Resources in the fire or police department of Ontario this question.
I CAN tell you that insulin dependent diabetics are not allowed to serve on juries in Fort Worth, Texas. And we get funny looks from the guards because of our insulin needles when we go through the inspection gate.
NPFA 1582 addresses medical qualifications for firefighters. While I don’t know if that standard applies in Ontario, it is the only reference I’m aware of which might be applicable.
