Can I access an old version of google.com?

After the USPS redesigned their website and it changed from a fast beauty of minimalism into a bloated javascript monster I found that using some version of the URL would allow me to access the old style original page, at least for tracking# search which was all I used it for anyway.

Is there a way to do the same with google? The new google.com is driving me crazy, things I want like site cache are now hard to find, the auto search, argh!

You should be able to turn off auto search (called “Google Instant”) in your settings. Your preference should save between browser sessions as long as you stay logged in or at least don’t clear your cookies. The site cache is still available if you hover over a link and go to the preview window and then click cached version. One more step, I know, and it’s annoying.

Alternatively, you can try the mobile, simpler version of Google at:

Depending on your browser, that may give you simpler interface.

The Internet Archive has caches of Google.com going right back to 1998, although admittedly that particular version may be a little limited in its scope.
