Can I bitch about Microsoft Edge? Please

I fucking hate it! It constantly freezes up, and it takes a half a fucking hour to post three words here. I check the task manager, and it keeps the CPU hovering around 99% tied up. All The Fucking Time!

Ads constantly. Can’t get an ad blocker to take. Tried several times. Okay, I’m fucking stupid, so probably my bad.

I decide to try to download Firefox. Hurrah! Downloads and installs just dandy! Except it won’t import any stuff from Edge* unless I have a second fucking** DEVICE**!*

I don’t have another fucking device! I fucking hate devices!

So, Goddammit! Back to fucking Edge, and ads and freezing up and generally being driven to fucking drink!

:mad::mad::(:mad:

Bonus Pie for anybody who can turn me on to an ad blocker that works on this fucking Edge shit.

If your Windows 10 install is up to the Anniversary Edition or beyond, then Adblock Plus works with Edge.

Or just use Chrome like any sane human.

He shoots - - HE SCORES!

I tried to use Edge and lasted about a day before reaching for the Chrome install.

On my Windows 10 computer, I ignore Edge and just use IE 11 instead. (Mostly, though, I use Chrome.)

Here is how to export bookmarks from MS Edge:

Import that file into Firefox.

It looks like Chrome is wanting me to add another “device”.

I got a chainsaw.

I still use Firefox. I don’t use Gmail either. Don’t feel like [del]selling[/del] giving my soul to Google.

There are some things about Edge that I like, but IE is still the better browser in many ways.

You can use Chrome without using a “device”.

I’ve heard good things about uBlock Origin

The “device” is just your computer. Chrome or Firefox are asking if you want it to keep whatever settings you have, remember passwords et cetera or not. If you use them in multiple machines, you can have some remember stuff for ease of use, and others not: for example, my home computer remembers everything and logs me in to many sites automatically, but my work computer doesn’t. They’re using “device” instead of “computer” because it’s generic enough to cover any computer, excuse me, device, and doesn’t require having a different text depending on whether you’re on something that people do think of as a “computer”, or a “tablet”, or a “phone”.

They were trying to avoid confusing those who can’t wrap their heads about the tablet or phone being a computer, but instead ran afoul of those who can’t think of their computers being devices.

I use uBlock Origin and strongly recommend it.

I also use Firefox. Or Chrome. Or Vivaldi. Because life’s too short to use a Microsoft browser.

I use uBlock Origin on all those browsers. I also use NoScript and turned off auto-play.

You can also go to your default programs, and set your Internet Explorer to be your default browser.

So, I’ve tried Chrome, Firefox and IE.

All the time, my CPU is running at 100%

I’ve got a virus? Something else?

Half hour to post this

I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve got a big Windows update download/install going on in the background. You could check to see if it’s that or just leave your PC on, alone and online for a while.

And get porn where?

Chrome is rapidly shittifying as it transitions into an OS masquerading as a web browser.

Task Manager? What process(es) are pegging the CPU?

Edge and Edge Content Process.

I end Content Process and then Edge just jump to compensate. It’s pretty much always hovering around 90-98%.

I just don’t know what’s happening sometimes.

9/10 times in a case like that, it’s a runaway ad making one of the plugins (e.g. Flash) consume all of the CPU time. disable add-ons/plugins and see if any of them make the problem go away.

Just switch to Lynx.
