Also, I might have to possibly take courses as a non-degree seeking student for a semester, what aid could I get while doing this?
At one time, eons ago, I worked for the Dept. of Ed’s FAFSA call center. I don’t remember everything, but one thing I do remember is that in order to receive Federal student aid you must be a degree seeking student and attending at least half time. Half time is determined by your particular university
That doesn’t mean other sources of funding might not be available. I would ask the people in the student aid office.
Yeah, talk to your financial aid office on campus. IIRC, whether they want a FAFSA or not depends on what you are doing at the time.

You can file now, regardless of status, then update your information as you become aware of it. It does not hurt to file if you don’t think you will get any aid, because you just might anyway.
