Can I revive my thread with updates or is that a no?

I started a thread asking for some help with my video game garage door painting. I am still in the planning stages, we got 6 inches of snow here yesterday and are expecting another 6 the next 2 days. I want to get started with the practicing soon, and the painting as soon as it stays warm.

I’d like to update my thread whenever there’s progress made or I have questions. My question here is: Is that okay for me to revive a thread with updates and questions over the next 2-3 months or a little longer if needed? I know zombie threads come back to life from time to time, and it’s sort of frowned upon here but I don’t think it’s banned unless it’s extreme. My thread is about an ongoing painting project so is it okay if I revive it as needed? I might sometimes post 2-3 in a row if I have updates and no one responds to my stuff before I add info…

In GQ, we don’t mind zombies as long as the new posts have something substantial factually to add to the discussion. It’s only pointless revivals that we frown upon.

That said, the original thread was about the mathematics involved in the project, which is a factual GQ question. If your updates are more about the artistic side of things or just about your accomplishments in general, that’s more of a Cafe Society or MPSIMS thing (depending on what aspects of it you want to talk about). If you are just going to do a few updates here and there, that’s no biggie and you can just post it to the GQ thread. We don’t mind if things stray a little bit from the OP in GQ as long as the question has been addressed factually (which it has in this case). If you are going to be doing a lot of updates though, you might want to consider another forum or ask us to move the thread for you.

If you have further factual questions to ask about the project, then reviving your GQ thread is perfectly fine.

Thank you for your response! I will definitely have more questions as it progresses. And since some Dopers are fans of the game and seem interested in the project, I wanted to post once in a while when I put new pics on photobucket for some small progress updates. This is going to be a challenging project but I think my wife and I can pull it off!

Good luck, Apocalypso! Sounds like a novel idea.

If a thread is really old (you know how art projects go if there’s no deadline) you can always start a new thread with a link to the old one:

Remember how I was going to paint my garage door back in 2001? Well I finally did it and it turned out great!
