I live in a one-bedroom apartment, so I only have the one bed. I don’t even have a couch.
Closest I can come is my mom’s house, which currently effectively has two guest bedrooms, the rooms which used to be occupied by my sister and I. They’re still maintained as bedrooms, though this time of year, you’d probably want to at least take the time to throw an extra quilt or two on them, and redirect the vents so they’re heated.
This is a three bedroom house, but none of the bedrooms is set up as a guest room. One bedroom’s mine, one has most of Linden and Poe’s stuff including their cat tree that’s 5’ tall, and the master bedroom is set up as my office.
If you get an inflatable bed, we can put it in the office I guess. There’s room for it.
I’d like to vacuum and yes, it needs bedding, but I can be ready in 15 minutes in the guest room/exercise room or living room/guest room with excellent queen-size pull-out sofas with no bars and topped with a 3" memory foam pad, new pillows, and handmade quilts.
ETA: Cat comes with the deal. No good option for no cat.
We do not have a guest room. We have a standard 3/2 house and two teenagers so have no extra bed. When they move out one of the bedrooms will become my wife’s “craft room” (roll eyes) and the other will become my office / library / guest room. I’d like to put a Murphy bed in there rather than a regular bed.
We do have a large living room and a decently comfortable queen air mattress in our camping supplies so if we do get a guest we have that as an option. Along with the two full-sized couches I guess that means we technically can put up 4 people somewhat comfortably. Add in a back yard for tents or just sleeping under the stars in the summer (seriously, I’ve had to do that as a guest before. Better for kids than adults though) and the number of people we can host increases by probably 6 or 10. Push comes to shove there’s a couple of very cheap motels within 5 minutes of my house that I’d be happy to put someone up in if needed.
It kind of depends who the person is, too. @ZipperJJ is always welcome here. A good chunk of my family? I’ll put them up in the motel. A few of them aren’t welcome here at all.
Last January we had two guests stay with us for a couple of nights. Other than my kids having their friends over for sleepovers when they were younger that was the first and only time – in 21 years – we’ve had guests who weren’t family stay with us. We used to have a guest room in a house we had years ago and it never was used. So it’s not exactly something I worry about.
After 1.5 years of home office, we finally got the guest room / library to
a decluttered state. We have a sofabed in the guest room / library, and we have sheets for it, but I would probably wash the sheets before guests.
However, we are currently getting ready to fly to the U.S., so we have a collection of chocolates, cookies, booze, etc., which will find their way into suitcases. So I have to pack.
I have three completely furnished guest bedrooms upstairs (we sleep downstairs). The favored one has south and east windows, and a four poster queen bed. That one gets filled first. Then the room with two double beds, and for a full house, there’s a sweet little room just big enough for a twin bed, a luggage rack, and a nightstand. I’ve only had a full house a couple times in the past four years – well, for a year and a half no one set foot in the house except for us.
My daughter and her wife, who only live 25 minutes away, often come for Saturday dinner and spend the night (in the queen bed of course). The house is so big that we have no need to use any of those rooms for anything except guests. I don’t tend to collect things.
The nice thing about two twin beds is it can handle two unattached people. If they are a couple then can survive sleeping apart (or in the same bed if they are extra attached )
The guest BRs are the ‘kids’ BRs. I can set up the couch… I can put sleeping bags on the LR floor… I can put logs in the fire place… I can show you how to access NETFLIX and the PS5 from the remotes ( but please keep the sound down ) .
I Do insist that you close the venetian blinds because the Dog Walker Frau are nosey as f-ck and will stare at you for a cheap thrill.
When we moved here, we were moving away from my MIL and had small children. A comfortable guest bedroom was one of the things we looked for when shopping houses.
Our guest room is ready and the sheets are clean. The towels in the guest bath are clean too. And we have a spare key for you while you’re here.
It wasn’t always this way. That bed had provided a surface for ongoing projects. But a few years back we realized it’s better to just keep it clean and clear. And we’ve been good at maintaining it that way.
When do you arrive? We’re supposed to get a pretty strong storm tonight and tomorrow, so don’t arrive too late tonight.
Sorry, of the two available other bedrooms I’ve got, one was converted into an office for the missus and I, and the other is the throne room of my three furry overlords.
Tripler
Now, if you want to/are able to sleep in a cat tree, then maybe we can work something out. Bring your own kibble.
I had my son’s bedroom redone as a guest room when he moved out. Everything’s ready except for the Christmas presents on the bed and a couple of pictures I want to hang.
Well, my son recently moved back in, for 3-4 months. He’s occupying the 3rd bedroom. It’s nice having him around. We get to chat and catch up. He’s 37.
My guest bed has been occupied for so long it never occurred to me that I could wrap presents there if it were clean. I always have to make room on the kitchen table and it’s awkward.
Thanks to all you Dopers, I just wrapped three big gifts on the bed. Woohoo!
We have 2 rooms with queen sized beds, that share a bathroom. One room has a tv. We could also put 2 guests on an inflatable in our office. So plenty of room for up to 6 guests. Unfortunately, wife is very stressed by guests, so we rarely have any. I miss them.
