Can I Use Social Security Information To Update My Resume'?

In preparing my resume, I seem to have fogotten for whom I have worked and when. WIll Social Security provide me with that information? I have sent them an e-mail, but it’s gonna be next week before they’ll answer, and I thought y’all might know or have done this before.

Thanks

You can request from the Social Security Administration a history listing all of your employers, their addresses, and the income you earned each year from each employer.

Download a copy of Form SSA-7050, “Request for Social Security Earnings Information.” The form is at the bottom of the list. Once you have the form title highlighted, click on the button “Select the Form.”

But I don’t think the Social Security Administration keeps records on the exact dates you began and ended work at a particular employer. They have only the years.

The state Departments of Labor keep two years worth of state wages for all employees within their respective states. They do not have the current quarter and the employers have another quarter to report, so they are always 1 to 2 quarters behind, but they keep eight quarters on file in case you should file for unemployment. I don’t know if they would be willing give out the information to you, but you could ask.

Disclaimer: The above information was true for the Louisiana Department of Labor when I worked for them in the 1970s. I would think that all states have the same requirements and that things haven’t changed much, but I don’t know. Also they don’t keep specific dates, just wages by employer for the quarters.

The years are all I will need. Thanks very much to both of you for your replies.
