I got a Baby-G watch for Christmas, and the cloth band is starting to look really grungy. Is it safe to wash it? How would I go about doing that?
You should be able to take the band off. There are two smallspring pins (for lack of a better comparison, like the bar on your toilet paper holder) on either side of the watch face, where the band meets the watch, that can be taken off using a straight pin. DO NOT LOSE THEM!! You can then clean your band using soap and water, let it dry, and then put it back on. You may go a little cross eyed, since the pin is very small, but it can be done.
The people behind the watch counter have a little forked pry-bar to pop the spring bars out with. It’s not difficult to do with a pocket knife, at least on any watch I’ve tried it on. I can’t imagine being able to get them loose with a straight pin, though. Good Luck, YMMV.
Oh, yeah. The people behind the watch counter(at Wal-Mart) (if you have one in the Shire) have plenty of extra spring pins, in case you do lose one.
No spring pins here, but I do understand what you’re getting at. Is it possible (or even all that bright) to stick the band in pantyhose and run it through the washer and dryer?
Removed from the watch, I don’t see why not. It’s fabfic, so it should be ok. Instead of the dryer, you can probably just lay it flat on your counter or window sill and it’ll dry pretty quickly.
Attatched to the watch, probably not a good idea.
This is true. Thank you kindly; I’ll try it this weekend and let you know how it goes.
