Can Mites Kill Humans?

Still reading. Could these be Demodex Mites? I forgot to mention I had some on my eyelashes and eyebrows. I know. I need to chill, right?

But take a look anyway, just for S&G’s.

Q

Not writing you off. But don’t forget, in case a dermatologist can’t give you a diagnosis, okay? It’s important to cover all bases, as embarrassing and painful as it may be. It surely has to be less embarrassing and painful than what you’re experiencing now.

I’ll take delusuions over this s*** any day, Plummie.

I’m with Plumpudding on this. I worry you’re going to really start injuring yourself, Quasi, by scratching, clawing or otherwise harming yourself with wild home remedies over something delusional.

Bugs/parasites just do not manifest themselves that way. AT ALL. Find some help, Quasi. Good luck to you and your family.

… have I written I have specimens???

Going to unsubscribe. Sorry, but y’all won’t even consider I’m infested and contagious.

My vet friends name Is [info removed by Asimovian]. Wait until 11:30 or so and call her.

Q

Obviously if you have specimens of the parasites take them to the doctor when you go.

The concern people are having is that the treatments you’re giving yourself for your problem could actually be the cause of most of the symptoms. If you’re applying harsh chemicals to your skin to get rid of the bugs, the rash and itches and pain could be due to the chemicals.

It’s futile to argue the diagnosis here. It will not be productive in this case.

Quasi is aware he has dementia and also intractable itch along with other signs and symptoms of parasitosis, both delusional and standard. And he’s been advised to stop all non-comfort treatments as he waits for a second dermatology visit.

No, I am considering that. I am also considering other explanations, in part because I know how powerful a psychosis can be, how real they feel, and how difficult it is to realize a delusion as a delusion. I am not making a judgment either way, since I’m not in your presence and I’m specifically not trying to give a diagnosis, since I’m not a doctor. Which is why I urge you to see one again. Sorry if I gave you another impression.

My bold: I agree. Going to a medical professional who is able to give a thorough examination, is the only productive course of action, IMO.

And again, Quasi, I wish you all the best. Sorry if I came with unwanted or unwarranted (or both) suggestions.

Not a doctor, but I have read several threads online from people suffering from delusional parasitosis or another similar syndrome I will not name (so as to avoid giving anyone something to fixate on).

In all such conversations I have seen, the sufferer doggedly insists that the issue is real and evidence-based, and that no one else believes in it or is able to help. It seems almost characteristic of the problem.

If it’s real and you do in fact have inch-long parasites in large numbers, a mental health professional would easily be able to verify that and send you to the correct kind of help very quickly. So it wouldn’t hurt to make an appointment with someone in the mental health field.

Quasi, my new friend, please go to the dermatologist for me, if not for yourself, don’t leave that office til they have a diagnosis, They can send your specimens to a lab while you wait. They can scrape your skin and look in a microscope, vets do it, so I assume docs can do it. Please don’t unsubscribe. I want to know you’ve gotten help!!

I can confirm via experience that skin scraping is something human-centered dermatologists do.

Are we reading the same thread?

Quasi, whatever’s going on, I hope you get relief soon. I’m sorry this is happening to you.

Quasimodem, I hope you’re able to get a proper resolution to what you’re dealing with. But I think there are any number of potential problems with publicly encouraging folks to contact your friend (and identifying said friend). In the interest of that individual’s privacy (and yours), I’ve removed that information from your post.

Uh, yes, I believe we are!

Quasimodem, I would also urge you to see a psychiatrist. Both my mother and a close friend were told their health problems were psychological, and in both cases, it was the psychiatrist who convinced other medical professionals to keep looking. My mother would have died without that intervention. (She stopped breathing. It was ultimately diagnosed as myasthenia.)

Whether or not your parasites are delusional, a good psychiatrist can help you with them.
