Hello, I’m in a great deal of duress these days. In order to find some kind of solution I will try to give as much info as possible pertaining to the issue.
A few months back (somewhere between 2 and 3) I became aware of bed bugs. I’d moved in with my father after a traumatic experience with my now ex fiancé. In short we split up and I had a mental break down. After being released from the ER I packed up and moved in with him. I had no idea what bed bugs were and if I had known I would have never done that. After about a month of torture I decided we needed to get rid of them. I did a ton of research and we tried to exterminate them to no success. We called and exterminator with still no success. At this point I was sleeping in my car in the cold but they started to bite me there as well. So in a fit of desperation I left town and fled to my sisters. At first the bites and itching stopped. For a while I was fine. But then I noticed it felt like something crawling on me and biting me with sharp pin like painful jolts. At first only in my sleeping bag. But then I noticed on the couch as well. In the other two rooms and beds. However I can’t see any kind of insect. Ever. I search for them in the clothes, blankets, bed, on my skin and nothing. The odd thing is no one at my sisters ever complained of bites or had any marks. Neither do I. No marks. I am now on my way to Florida and driving from Ohio. I washed all my clothes and made sure to decontaminate everything as best I can. But during our stay in the hotel I start to get bite. Again no sign of insects and no discernible marks. I got up showered and changed clothes ( sealing the old clothes in a bag). I slept on the floor away from the bed In the new clothes with the same result. I then noticed the crawling, biting sensation while driving. In the second hotel I didn’t even touch the bed. I immediately showered, sealed the old clothes, and put on some of my fathers clothes in case my bag of clothing had been contaminated by my car. The same result. Biting, crawling, sleepless agony with no signs of insects. It stops when I’m not laying down. But I still feel a little itchy. Am I losing my mind? What is going on. I have no idea what is biting me or if anything even if. Is it just stress. I mean I did attempt suicide twice in the past 4 months. I’m QUITE stressed. But I can’t get any sleep. Someone please help me out. I’m going insane.
I’d suggest it’s Scabies - Scabies - Wikipedia - the cure for which is both washing all clothes/sheets and full-body coverage of a foul-smelling ointment.
Or maybe some sort of psychosomatic hives, due to stress.
Scabies are usually visible - I would recommend seeing a doctor.
You need talk to a mental health professional about this. Nobody else is being bitten, and you can’t see any bugs or bites.
Go back to the ER and explain all this to them. They will check for medical causes as well as mental ones. Do it now, don’t wait.

The OP may be having a histamine reaction to something in the environment or a drug or other supplement, or even a newly developed allergy.

No visible bites or marks of any type? My money is on mental.
Also, you’ve now contaminated your car with bedbugs as well. Sorry 'bout your breakup - sounds like it was a bad one.
You may not see bedbugs because they hide real well. They only ‘come out’ at like 3-4 AM. And other people not being bothered may just mean the herd hasn’t reproduced and spread to their sleeping area yet. Some will stay behind and reproduce even if you move out.
Bites while you’re driving, during the day, doesn’t sound like Bedbugs.
Also, if it is bedbugs, you will have visible bites, typically in small clusters of 2-4 bites called ‘breakfast lunch and dinner’ because they typically bite, move a little, and bite again.
Also, you will find bloodstains on your bed/clothing/pillow, whatever.
Bjlw, that sounds like a bitch, and I’m sorry you’ve been going through some hard times lately. The advice to see a doctor (or your old shrink, if you’re in contact) seems to me the wisest (remember, shrinks have their “real doctor” chops).
More generally, why do creepy-crawly sensations happen with certain drugs and not others? Which pathways?
Well I’m pretty sure now that it is bed bugs I still have yet to actually see them but where ever I try to sleep I’ve noticed that for the first night or two I’m fine but after that I can feel them crawling on me and biting me. I also do have bite marks now. Tiny little marks. I’m not sure how to get rid of these things. I vaccumed my car and saturated it with rubbing alcohol. I did the same for the apartment I’m in now and wash everything I wear after changing clothes as well as the blankets and sheets I’ve used but it doesn’t seem to have any effect at all. The only thing that might be a good sign is that no one who is here seems to have an issue with bites or has seen or complained of any bugs. I don’t know what I should do about this and I fear that it will get much worse soon if I don’t take some kind of preventative action.
I really think it’s important for you to see a medical professional about this, Bjlw, especially if it’s increasing your stress levels that much. It’s possible that you are having a reaction to some medication, or something in your environment, and that’s definitely something that should be evaluated.
You can’t feel bed bugs biting you when they do it, because they inject you with a natural anesthetic and anticoagulant.
If you really do have bedbugs you will be able to see them somewhere. They aren’t magic, invisible creatures. If for some reason you kill only the adults present in an area, the eggs won’t hatch for a while to bite you–they don’t just come back the next day.
Bed bugs arepretty big. You can see them, even the juveniles, pretty easily. Fleas are smaller and faster, but still visible.
I really would go see a doctor, there are many things this could be other than bugs. Stress and allergies can produce some really weird (and irritating) symptoms.
I would go to a doctor but I’m not insured at the moment, nor do I have a family doctor. I’m not even sure how to aquire one. I guess I could go to the emergency room but I don’t know how much good that would do. I have inspected this mattress extensively and found no signs of bedbugs. It’s baffling to me. I would see them at my fathers when I stayed there. I know what they look like. But even then I would have the same issue I’m having now. As I would try to sleep I could instantly feel things crawling on me and then painful, sharp bites. When I get up and move around that sensation stops. If I slept in a different area, for the first night or two I would be fine then it would start again. The same was true at my sisters apt, my fathers car, my mothers apt, my car and now here. Even sitting down to use my computer has the same results. Whatever chair or area I’m in will become “contaminated” after a few days. I have only, however, actually seen the insects at my fathers place. The big ones. Redish brown. My brother said that he saw some on a coat of his though that was at my mothers apt. I certainly don’t want to spread these things. I’m still at a loss on what to do. I’ve sprayed everything with alcohol to no effect. Should I just go to the ER?
Leo Bloom had a good suggestion…you might try seeing the provider who was caring for you after your breakdown, or after your suicide attempts. If nothing else, they can refer you to an appropriate doctor.
I was sent to a psych ward while in Ohio for about a week after the first attempt I made. Ironically it was by drinking rubbing alcohol. I willingly checked myself into the ER and was sent to be evaluated. I was diagnosed with manic depressive disorder and at first put on Prozac but then quickly had that changed to Wellbutrin. However after an issue with insurance providers I was sent to a less adequate facility and released the following morning. The next week afterwards I pretty much drank everyday to numb myself and didn’t really leave my home other than to get more drinks or go to bar. I did a lot of drugs as well. I found out some disturbing information about my ex and my best friend and tries to jump off a bridge but changed my mind and took a bottle of sleeping pills instead. Luckily my sister called the police and was admitted to yet another ER. After being there for a few days (wildly hallucinating) I was released. I left the following morning to go stay with my father in Michigan. That was when the bed bug thing happened. I didn’t have the itchiness or crawling sensations before I went to his home. His loft is infested with bed bugs. After being there for about a month and not being able to sleep because of the bugs I left and went to my sisters apt back in Ohio. I had lost nearly all of my friends because of my ex and best friend now being together. I stopped going to my job and was on indefinite medical leave. In fact all I did was get high and/or drunk for about a month or two until I decided to leave and come to Orlando. Everything is now much better here, with the exception of this one issue. I didn’t have these crawling, biting issues while being treated at the hospital and even still, the doctors who cared for me are on the other side of the country. I have been completely sober since the first post in this thread and no longer suicidal with the exception of not being able to sleep due to this issue. Should I go to the ER here in Florida and tell them what I’ve written here? I’m praying its not a bed bug issue because I think if its a mental or allergic reaction I could deal with that better than an infestation.

And now this, in your latest post:
Read your own words and accept the fact that your story is changing. Your mind is playing tricks on you (and/or us). Based on all your descriptions, those of your friends and family, and your mind changing facts on the fly, you need to let it sink in that you need to work on the “bugs” in your brain, and just stop thinking and worrying about bugs on your body.
Just think it through rationally, read your own words, and realize that you aren’t thinking straight. Maybe/hopefully this realization alone will be enough to provide you some measure of relief and help focus your attention on what you really need to work on.
Well to clarify, I’ve seen them at my fathers place. But I’ve only seen them there. I never really looked for bite marks until after posting here. It’s hard to tell really but I do have tiny little red marks. In the first post I was remarking that I’d not not seen the bugs since I left my fathers loft. In fact I haven’t seen any bugs at any other place but his loft. The crawling and biting sensations still remain however. neither has anyone else save for my brother who noticed them on a coat which came from my fathers loft. And the only thing that makes me think I’m not crazy is the fact that when I spent the night with a girl I was seeing after returning to Ohio from Michigan, she was itchy and seemed to be having the same biting issues as I did. She is the only person however to have this problem aside from my father. but even then no visual confirmation of insects were found. I don’t think my story is changing. It’s the same story. I guess I just didn’t make it very clear. I suppose I’ll go to the hospital tomorrow though. I don’t think I can continue living without sleep and this much strain on my mind.
