And because they are making profit makes them bastards? Isn’t this America where the free market decides price points for consumer products? I don’t believe that the people at Bose are holding a gun to anyone’s head and making them buy. If people feel that they are being duped by marketing whose fault is that?
Personally I think that they are way over priced too, but there stuff is pretty cool. MFers!
225 lbs split between three dogs. Rottweiler, a little over 120. Lab, about 80. Little terrier mix, about 25 lbs. She keeps the peace and enforces the rules. They boys do what she (and I) say. The Lab and the Rottweiler are the ones to play bitey-face and Clash of the Titans and generally be rambunctious. the terrier mix rules from above (my bed) and snarls when they get too rowdy.
On reflection, that is indeed a crap design. I imagine that if I used this unit for playing CD’s on a regular basis, it would have failed a long time ago.
Heh, well, no. Profit is good and what makes the world hum along. I am not opposed to the concept!
But I guess I was thinking that if their tech support people really wanted to be technically supportive, they would have suggested the $15.85 remote as a viable solution in addition to, or instead of, the $250 exchange solution. But they didn’t. You did, and a couple of other people, and some online electronics dealer did, though. However, Bose just wanted me to spend more money with them, instead of exploring alternate options, such as buying a cheap remote or physically rectifying the problem with my fingertip.
Which again, is OK. That is why they exist; they exist to sell their products. I’m just happy I found a work-around.
Profits are fine. Profits from willingly-paying consumers are fine (with caveats).
Profits from a combination of meh, low-production-cost items driven to premium price tiers by a nonstop marketing assault (Bose, Dyson, Monster all come to mind)… maybe there are some deeper considerations to think about.
Might as well throw in every designer label perfume, bag and clothing line. While we are at it throw in many “high end” cars and first class plane tickets as well; those cars and seats don’t really cost 10 times more than economy models do they? Cry me a river and grow up. Quite hijacking a thread from someone who wanted advice with you hatred of capitalism. I’m out of here, open up a great debate thread if you want to rant.
Sounds like a good logical reason. My thought was that back seat passengers could also control the stereo, adjust volume, change radio stations, etc. with the remote without bothering the driver.
The remote for a car stereo is surprisingly useful for scanning through radio stations, especially when you are driving outside of where you can pick up your familiar stations. It’s much easier to hit the next button on a remote than on the radio. Sounds odd until you try it.
On some cars the radio’s controls are hard to reach because the radio is too low or too high or too far away from the driver. The remote comes in handy. On one aftermarket stereo I owned, the simplified controls on the remote were easier than fiddling with the tiny buttons on the radio itself to change the station or volume.
