Are there computer games or games for the iPad that improves short term memory? Or are these gimmicks by game makers to make money. That claim they improve short term memory and attention processing speed?
What I mean by term memory? Is when you work at call center and some one calls in telling you names and phone numbers and you not always just one minute, allow me to write it down or saying can you repeat or slow down. You can just take in that information or write it down later.
Or is short term memory and attention processing speed cannot be improved it base on genetics or how your brain was born?
Some people can take in lot of information and other people have to write every thing down and the information has to come in slower because the attention processing speed is not there to take in lot of information coming in fast.
And the computer games and brain puzzles are mostly gimmicks made to make money and there is no science prove they help???
There is LOT OF **web sites, work books, games , apps, games for the iPad and puzzles **that claim to boost short term memory and attention processing speed so on.
I have not tried any games for iPad or puzzles so don’t know if they work or not or are gimmicks or not.
It was my understanding short term memory and attention processing speed was mostly base on genetics and how your brain was born and thus you could not improved it.
It seems that there are a lot of little different things you can do to improve short term memory. Here’s a list of a few things. It’s like many abilities; genetics may set the baseline, and some people are naturally better than others, but anyone can improve with practice.
I don’t know if games improve short term memory, or if they do I would think it would be in a narrow framework. For example a game like this might help you remember patterns, but I don’t think it would improve your memory for names and phone numbers.
I’m not sure if by doing brain exercises be it game, workbook, puzzles, apps for iPad , computer games work or are gimmicks.
Some claim that all those brain exercises out there don’t work that things like spatial recognition and pattern recognition, short term memory, attention processing speed is looked by genetics, IQ and how brain was born and cannot be improved.
There may be tips and tricks to help but they will not improve short term memory or attention processing speed.
And that brain exercises be it games, workbooks, puzzles and so on are gimmicks and don’t work.
I think there are things you can do to improve any of those abilities you mention, just not by much. You become more skilled by doing things, it applies to physical and mental tasks. But people who are not mentally lethargic to start with are exercising most mental skills a great deal during their life and don’t have that much further to go with the basics. That’s unlike a physical activity such as playing tennis that leaves a lot or room for improvement. You might say you can use puzzles and games to sharpen your skills.
