Watch anything on Showtime now and you can be damned sure when one movie ends or before another movie starts you’re going to see an ad for “The Tudors”. And it stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers (we’re told repeatedly) who gets interviewed constantly during these ads. They exploit the fact that he portrayed Elvis by showing a very short clip of Meyers as Elvis, with the voiceover saying “he was the king … of England !!!”, which then turns into an ad for … “The Tudors”.
I don’t know about you, but the one show I know I will never watch in this (or any future lifetime) will be “The Tudors”.
(This is a minor rant and felt it was not pit-worthy).
I feel your pain - and NBC seems to agree you cannot over-advertise a show. They have shown promos for The Black Donnellys every ten minutes for the past two weeks. I am already so sick of this show you couldn’t get me to watch it at gunpoint.
And speaking of NBC, during a Superbowl of about 20 years ago, between each play (or almost) they’d show Mr T standing on the sidelines, and the announcers would say “and remember he’s starring in the A-Team, which premieres right after this game.”
“I’m the king of England!!!”
Seriously, I thought the show looked intriguing until I had seen the promo about 50,000 times. I can’t take it anymore. The only way I can see my previews for The L Word is to sit through that damn ad! Arrrgh!
The Chao Goes Mu
Well, it’s good to know I’m not the only one.
Don’t forget “every woman wanted him … every man wanted to be him”,
and every Showtime viewer wants to kill him.
I saw an ad for this show last night that made me both laugh and roll my eyes. The tagline was something like, “This family knows how to whack… if you thought The Sopranos were tough, meet… THE TUDORS!”
Bwahaha! Very silly. But I’m still going to watch it. Hell, I still watch The L Word, and that has to be the stupidest show currently on TV.
Heheh, I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks The L Word is shite. Great Og do the writers suck!! But oh dear, the eye candy. If not for the eye candy…
that’s a whole 'nutha thread.
