I’ve seen references to this in the media over the last day or so and I’ve tried finding the core thing but it doesn’t make sense to me. So can you folks please explain this?
Years ago he made a Twitter post where he uploaded a photo of another Twitter post. The older post was a link to a video titled something like “woman assaulted by dolphin and enjoys it”, and Vance commented “Maybe the Internet was a mistake”.
However the screenshot of Twitter that Vance posted had bolded the words “dolphin” and “woman” in the original tweet, implying that he searched for those terms in Twitter’s search box and then took a pic of the results.
So the joke is that he went looking for posts about women and dolphins and pretended to get offended once he found what he looked for.
This was recently found by someone digging in his Twitter history and is now making the rounds as the latest Vance meme.
I’d never heard of this so I just Googled “jd vance dolphin” and these were the first couple of results.
What I can best determine is that he was trying to make some comment about how depraved the internet is, as some kind of conservative virtue signal attempt. He posted how supposedly he has content randomly pushed on him about a human woman being intimate with a dolphin. Yet in the screenshot he shared, he included the part that showed his search history which demonstrated that he directly searched for the content.
It’s a combination of a “gotcha” where he’s caught lying about why the content appeared to him, and at the same time raises questions about his reasons for searching it in the first place. There are already rumors about him having bizarre sexual proclivities and that just fuels such rumors.
ETA: Ninja’d as I was typing.
As above.
Somehow, of all the possible Simpsons references in relation to our current political discourse, a 30 year old episode about Troy McClure’s fascination with sea life did not make my top ten.
