For unattractive but sexy: Maybe it’s just me, but Melissa Leo, as Detective Kay Howard (Homicide: Life on the Streets) was not blessed with a classically attractive face. But…Great Googly Moogly.
It may be a US v UK language clash but I’m with jjimm on this. Attracive is the whole thing and - by definition, if a woman attract me she is “sexy”. Rephrased as “Can someone be **good looking/beautiful ** but not sexy? And vise-versa?” I’d say definitely yes. Already lots of examples given.
Attractive and sexy are completely different! Attractive are those people that look good but lack charisma and that “something”… sexiness is Kevin Spacey… all creased and lopsided and human. He’s sexy as hell, but not necessarily camera-worthy. IMHO, it’s much harder to be sexy by accident than to be attractive. I get frustrated when 'People" comes out with it’s Top 100 Sexy Edition. The people in there are typically airbrushed and made up too look appealing in a PC kind of way. They are in no way/shape/form sexy. How hard is it to look good when you have that much money.
So true. Tom Cruise, while one of the “pretty people” is so unsexy. Like Brad Pitt mentioned above, he’s got that Ken doll thing going. In addition, his actions and his affiliation with Scientology mean that if he walked into the room and propositioned me (like that’s going to happen) I’d probably laugh in his face.
At least for me, most models are “pretty people” rather then sexy. They are visually pleasing, the way a nice picture of a sunset is, but there isn’t much sexy there.
